Security and Safety Information Advisory for all Residents

1. Cooperate with the MOPA (Molave Park Association) on all matters of residential
security and safety.
2. Remember that MOPA is a facilitator of security of the village in general but
responsibility for security and safety of premises is that of each resident.
3. Ensure that there is preferably only one entry and exit to your house or flat and an
emergency exit is also recommended. Do not use sliding panel doors for main or side
entrance; these are easy to break in.
4. Ensure that all entrances, including service doors and gates, have quality locks-preferably deadbolt. Check separately each door especially if leaving out of town to
include:a. Front Door
b. Rear Door
c. Service Door(s)
d. Patio Door
e. Sliding Glass Door
f. Gate/s
5. Have a safe for keeping valuables on a temporary basis; however these are best kept in
bank safe deposit lockers especially when going out of town. Do not keep valuables
including jewelry and cash at home without proper security arrangements and never for a
long time particularly when you are going out of town and house is locked.
6. Insure your household items through a general insurance company.
7. Register and apply for issuance of I.D. for your domestic staff e.g. kasambahay, driver,
etc. with MOPA and inform the latter of any changes.
8. Ensure that if you are keeping a tenant he or she has police or NBI clearance.
9. Keep a pet dog. Dog can be a deterrent to criminals. But remember, even the best watchdog can be controlled by food or poison. Your dog should not be allowed to go outside
your gate unless on leash. Dogs must be vaccinated with anti-rabies.
10. Ensure that gate/s is locked at all times and keys are properly secured. Dont enter if you
come home and find a door or window open or signs of forced entry, call the security
guards for assistance.
11. Educate your children, househelp and driver on security aspects particularly not allowing
entry of strangers or not touching an unattended object but report the same to security. Do
not allow entry to even known persons coming at odd hours especially if only women and
children are at home. Do not allow strangers in the house even if they attempt to indicate
that there is an emergency.
12. Educate your children and househelp regarding Dugo-Dugo modus operand and that
they should ask assistance from MOPA office or security guard before doing anything.
13. Teach children and househelp emergency phone numbers, security guard number and
MOPA office number. Make sure children know their name, address, and phone number
but do not give it to strangers.
14. Have the number of the security guards post, MOPA office, etc. stored on your mobile as
well as that of other members. This is particularly important for women and senior
citizens.
15. Install fire alarm systems, smoke detector and keep portable fire extinguisher handy and
that everyone is trained to fight fire. Recommended to have burglar or intrusion alarms,
check and use them.
16. Keep flashlights in several areas in the house. Check batteries often, especially if you
have children.
17. Ensure that you put off the gas burner and other appliances which can be cause of fire in
case unattended before leaving the house.
18. Know your neighbors. Develop a rapport with them and offer to keep an eye on each
other's homes, especially during trips.
1

19. Establish safe family living patterns. If you understand the importance of your
contribution to the family's overall security, the entire household will be safer.
20. Vary daily routines; avoid predictable patterns. Kasambahay and driver/s should be
cautioned not to talk to strangers or friends regarding any household informations.
21. Arrange to have a friend or colleague pick up your newspapers, mail, or other deliveries
daily when you are away and also arrange to water your plants else it will be a giveaway
for criminals looking for an opportunity for burglary .
22. Unplug all unnecessary appliances such as televisions, stereos, and personal computers
when you are going away for a few days.
23. Report any suspicious activity, suspicious person/s, suspicious vehicle/s and/or any
serious breach of security. Do not conceal knowledge of serious crimes or risk.
24. Provide MOPA security stickers for your vehicle/s.
25. Apply for MOPA ID for construction workers to facilitate their entry at the gate.
Construction workers are to leave the village after each working days, only one worker is
allowed at the construction site during the night. Curfew is at 8 PM.
26. Do not allow grass to grow around your house or ground floor flat which will provide
burglars and thieves cover. More over in dry season this can be cause of fire.
27. Do not overload the electricity system beyond authorized load factor as it can be a cause
for fire apart from frequent tripping. In case necessary get the load enhanced from
authorized personnel.
28. Do not ask servants to go to locksmith and make duplicate keys.
29. Do not confront armed thieves and robbers but raise alarm and seek assistance from
security and police.
30. Do not offer any temptation to household staff even those employed for long period by
leaving valuables and cash outside. Do not discuss money related issues in front of
household staff even if these are considered very trustworthy.
31. Pay regularly your monthly dues to MOPA, differences can be resolved separately but
make sure that MOPA has adequate funds for security.
Conclusion
Security of residential areas is a pre-requisite for a safe and peaceful life in cities. While gated
communities have improved security, these have not eliminated possibility of thefts, forced
entries, incidents of molestation, sexual assaults and so on. Indicated above are simple measures
to be undertaken on a day to day basis in general and should be supplemented by additional
instructions by MOPA based on local conditions. Importantly making these a habit will ensure
that your residence and house/flat is burglar proof.
