ACCIDENTANDEVACUATIONPROCEDURES

GeneralEvacuationProcedures
1. AccidentproceduresfortheGenesisareasfollows:
a. Ifaninjury,fire,orotheraccidentoccurs,reporttoyoursupervisorimmediately.
b. ReporttheaccidentbytelephoneandbyemailtoQHSEDepartmentandHRAdviser
foryourfacility.
c. Makecertainthatyoureporttheexactlocationandnatureoftheproblem.
d. Incaseofanemergency,identifytheservicerequiredFire,Safety,Ambulance.
2. Ifanareahastobeevacuated,gotoaMusterpoint(ieassemblypoint)forheadcounting.
Yoursupervisorwillpickanevacuationmeetingareaifthisappliestoyourjob.
3. Donotattempttofightafireifthereisanythreattoyou.Alsodonotalteranaccident
scene,suchasmovingvehiclesorequipment.
5. TheruleduringanemergencyisDONOTTAKEUNNECESSARYRISKS.Evacuatethearea,
callforhelpandassisttheinjured.
Thefollowingproceduresapplytoanyevacuationsituation:
1. Becomefamiliarwithyourbuilding.Knowthelocationofemergencyexits.
2. Inanyemergencysituation,contacttheQHSEDepartment.
3. Intheeventanevacuationisnecessary,youwillbedirectedbyanauthorised
personnel,QHSEofficer,orfacilitysupervisor/manageonwhattodo.
4. Remaincalm.Trytokeepotherscalm.
5. Exit the building using stairwells.Never use the elevators.Close and secure
alldoorsbehindyou.
6. Proceed to the designated meeting area(s) (the muster point). Stay calm and
listenfordirectionsfromyoursupervisor/manager.
7. Notify the first responding agency of any disabled, trapped or injured
persons.
8. Never reenter the building unless directed to do so by the QHSE
Department.

FIRE/SMOKEEVACUATIONPROCEDURE

Ifafirealarmsounds,takeitseriously.Ifyounoticeafireorsmellsmoke:
DONOTfightthefire.Remaincalm.

1.Prepareandevacuatethebuildingbywayofthenearestemergencyexit.Walk;donot
run.Donotuseelevators.
2.Closebutdonotlockalldoorsasyouleave.
3.Beforeexitingthroughanycloseddoor,checkforheatandthepresenceoffirebehind
thedoorbyfeelingthedoorwiththebackofyourhand.Ifthedoorfeelsverywarmorhot
tothetouch,adviseeveryonetoproceedtoanotherexit.
4.Intheeventyouareunabletoexitthebuilding:
a. Remaincalm;donotpanic
b. Remainlow;crawlifnecessary.
c. Placeacloth,wetifpossible,overyourmouthtoserveasafilter
d. Signalforhelpfromawindow.Useatowel,clothing,signetc.
5.Uponexitingthebuildingandproceedingtotheassemblyarea,remainatleast20feet
away from the building walls and overhangs. Do not block any driveways, as Fire
Departmentpersonnelwillneedaccesstotheseareas.
6. The cessation of an alarm/departure of the fire department is not an "all clear" to re
enterthebuildingascorrectivemeasuresmaystillbeinprogress.Stayclearofthebuilding
untilafirewardenhasadvisedyoutoreenterthebuilding/area.
7. Assist visitors during alarm/emergency situations. Visitors may not be aware of
exits/alternativeexitsandtheproceduresthatshouldbetakenduringalarmsituations.
Employeesshouldcalmlyinformvisitorsoftheproperactionstobetakenandassistthem
withtheevacuation.
