2.
Explain the reasons behind recent efforts to make the promotion of
physical activity engagement a central goal for school physical education
programs.

3.
Explain why efforts to raise physical fitness levels in youth have been
largely unsuccessful?
Decrease in PE programs in the High Schools
Physical fitness is a short term goal for youth
Students who do not mature when their peers do can become discouraged in
physical activity. Students are not growing as fast as others.
Youth are becoming strongly electronically attached.
Youth are pressured into playing sports and then get turned away because of
higher standards

Students feel like they arent skilled athletes and want to drop out of physical
education around the middle school age. Arent letting themselves grow and
become better athletes.

4.
Explain how physical maturity affects the physical skills of students.
Maturity is based on chronological age and skeletal age
Early-maturing students are taller and heavier for their age also larger
amounts of muscle and bone tissue
Late maturing students catch up to maturers in height but not weight and
can underperform in strength and size activities.
PE curriculum should meet needs of all students

5.
Explain the harmful effects that being overweight can have on the
health and well-being of a student.
They dont think that they can be good at sports and physical activities and
fitness
Figure out modifications for these students so they can still work on their
physical fitness.
Uncomfortable with their bodies
6.
Discuss the impact of physical fitness and activity on academic
performance.
Wakes up your mind and body to get ready to learn.
Studies have shown that physical activity in students can help to improve
test scores.
More blood flow to your brain and easier for you to retain information learned

7.
Identify safety guidelines for exercise and physical activity that should
be addressed and followed by physical education teachers.
Avoidance of physical injury or harm
Maintain and develop positive attitudes and feelings about exercise.
Using moderation to ensure positive feelings towards physical fitness and
movement.
Intensity of activities lasting longer than 30 minutes should be reduced when
temperatures are above critical levels.
Help students enjoy distances and be able to train for these fitness tests.
Be careful with the students working in the weight room and not using
excessive amounts of weight.
8.
Explain the rationale for assigning fitness workloads on time rather
than distance or number.

Makes it better for the students and gives them more opportunities to be
successful and it is all based on what they can personally achieve
Keeps students motivated and not discouraged.
