To Whom It May Concern,
With great pleasure I present my application for a Library Media Specialist position. Last year I decided
wanted to work more closely with students to increase their engagement through the use of technology and
supplemental resources. Although the classroom provides this opportunity to me, as a Media Specialist, I
would have more frequent chances to impact a greater number of students. While earning my media center
certification, I had the opportunity to volunteer over 60 hours in media centers from 3rd grade through high
school, with the majority of that experience served in the middle school setting.
My views of a successful library media program include creating a welcoming space which encourages daily
use by both teachers and students. As a highly qualified Library Media Specialist, I would serve the role of
teacher, instructional partner, information specialist, and program administrator. My experience in teaching
middle school students would prove most beneficial when co-planning lessons that support the curriculum
standards and ultimately improve achievement on standardized tests. Collaborating and soliciting feedback
from students, teachers, and administration would enable me to tailor the instructional materials available
from the media center to provide the optimal level of instructional support.
As technology continues to revolutionize education, the need for students to effectively locate, use, and
evaluate quality materials to support their learning will continue to be imperative. Knowing not all students
have access to technology, I would like to ensure the Media Center be used to reach all students, especially
those in need. Furthermore, I hope to have the opportunity to increase student understanding of technology
and help them to become more proficient in using it for educational purposes. I look forward to the chance
to show students what lies out there beyond the standard word processing and research capabilities of the
computer to engage and enhance a students learning experience. My aptitude for technology has made it
possible for me to bring more innovative experiences into my classroom and will serve me well when
integrating technology tools for instruction through the media center.
I believe my experience in the field of middle grades education, my passion for technology, and my goal of
integrating information literacy skills into the curriculum will make me a valuable member of your team. I
