I have a passion for working with youth and experience coaching, tutoring, mentoring, and

Experience in a 6th grade US History I class. Working to team plan and create a supportive
educational experience for diverse learners.

with a Special Ed co-teacher and two sections of advanced classes. Differentiated lesson plans
through small group work and project-based learning to create an inclusive classroom

Experience at Broadway High School in a tenth grade world history class and AP Human
geography class. Emphasis on simulations and examining perspectives to enable students to
see social studies through a global lens.
Worked with immigrants and refugees in the Harrisonburg community. Used the background of
American history and civics as well as current events to build English language skills and
empower immigrants and refugees.

Tutor
Tutored middle schoolers at Skyline Middle School in an after school program for at-risk
students. Assisted in activities to support additional learning as well as provided homework
help.

Volunteer
Assisted in a Pre-K program at Pleasant Valley Elementary School for children ages 2-4 that
were targeted as at-risk in the community. Assisted the teacher with lessons, daily routines,
and 1-on-1 learning activities to support the students.
Worked twice a week with an after-school program at the Boys and Girls Club through a
partnership with the JMU Honors program. Assisted with homework and activities to mentor
youth and promote higher education.
On the executive board for the largest sports club at JMU. Organized community service
opportunities and fundraising events. Facilitated meetings and managed communication for
over 250 members.

Created a social studies lesson plan on the age of exploration to exhibit how to use the flipped
classroom model of differentiation for Kristina Doubet and Eric Carbaughs book published in
November 2015.
JMU UnConference

Presenter
Planned JMUs first UnConference at JMU, a series of informal sessions on different topics on
education in order to raise money for Nasaruni Academy, a girls school in Kenya, and
presented a flipped lesson plan on the Age of Exploration.
