Education
Introduction:

Attention Getter: Obesity, its slowly starting to become more of a

problem than years previously and spreading not only in America but
also worldwide, but yet our nation as a whole is gradually taking
away our PE and Sports programs in schools.
Audience Relevance: In 2012 my high school began to start
cutting PE classes and some Sport programs due to budget cuts of
getting a new school and a levy not passing. By cutting these things
it took a lot of faculty and some coaches out of a job. Not only that
but it took away the physical activity and aspect that so many
students enjoyed and needed. With that being said taking away
these things not only did that but could of also increased the obesity
rate due to no physical activity being done in the school.
Speaker Credibility: I am credible for speaking on this topic
because I am currently studying to become a Physical
Education/Health teacher and I plan on coaching as well.
Proposition: We should have life long quality Physical Education
Programs and regular Physical activity opportunities in our schools.
We shouldnt make any type of cuts to physical education or to sport
programs.
Preview of main points: Why physical education and sports are so
important, how these programs benefit us, how as a society it makes
it a better place or environment, how it affects student education.

Transition: The first big problem with not having physical education and
sports are
Body
I.
Problem: Not all schools value physical education and sports as a big
part in the education process. Many schools have made cuts on how
much PE time there is and some have cut PE classes completely.
Some schools have cut certain sport programs as well or even
eliminated them altogether.
a. Support: The education policies (ACSCAN.org, Journal of
theoretical training in PE, Children and youth in out of school
educational establishments)

i.

Evidence: Based off a test it demonstrated that girls

that power lifted showed a higher result in testing
better than those who didnt lift.
ii.
Evidence: Increasing physical fitness is accompanied
by rising student knowledge.
iii.
Evidence: It plays a very important role in motor
activity, substantial leisure and healthy life styles.
Transition: Secondly this doesnt just come into affect on its own its due to
other types of views educators and non-educators have.
II.

Cause: People have different views on what they believe is the most
important when it comes to education without actually knowing all
the facts and benefits that PE and sports do bring to the education
spectrum in schools.
a. Support: education polices and fact sheets
i.
Evidence: At least 50% of PE class time should be
spent in moderate to vigorous physical activity.
ii.
Evidence: PE and Sports help to improve or
maintain their physical well being.
iii.
Evidence: Public health organizations
recommend at least 60min. per-day of physical
activity
b. Support: ACS, CAN, ADA, AHA and many other national groups
recommend
150min. of PE each week for children in elementary and 225min.
per-week for middle school and high school.
i.
Evidence: A high quality PE program should
enhance the physical, mental, social/emotional
development of every child.
ii.
Evidence: PE and Sports can have a positive
impact on cognitive ability.
Transition: The solution to this problem is quit simple
III.

Solution: Create awareness to all educational faculty, schools,

communities. Set up programs to help talk about the importance of
PE and Sports in schools. Make take home paper or flyers explaining
why PE and sports are so important to education and explain the
benefits. Have educators approve on it and put in more PE/Sport time
or add it in to the school system if it wasnt already there. Make it a
graduation requirement even.
a. Support:
i.
Evidence: Physically fit children have a higher
scholastic achievement than those who arent fit.
ii.
Evidence: Physically fit children have better focus
in the classroom.

b. Support: Studies have found improvements in student

academic performance and cognitive ability with increased
time spent in physical education.
i.
Evidence: information of a graph comparing SAT
scores to kids with fitness to those without, which
shows that students with fitness actually benefited
and did better on the test.
ii.
Evidence: Physical fitness and condition strongly
benefits students as a whole with a healthy life
style and education.
Transition: Finally based on all the information thats been given without a
doubt PE and sport programs are very important when it comes to higher
education or just education as a whole.
Conclusion
I. Review of main points: PE/Sport importance in schools and to
society
II. Restate proposition: To keep PE/Sports in schools and to have more
of it as well
III. Devise closing: overall PE/Sport programs benefit not only the
schools but also the nation as a whole.
