STATIC FORCE ANALYSIS

When component of machine accelerates, inertia
forces and torques are produced due to their
masses.
In many situations, the magnitude of these forces
are small compared to externally applied loads
and so they can be neglected. Such an analysis is
known as SFA.

Principle of Virtual Work

IF A SYSTEM IN STATICAL EQUILIBRIUM IS
SUBJECTED TO A VIRTUAL DISPLACEMENT,
THE WORK DONE BY ALL THE ACTIVE
FORCES IN THE SYSTEM WILL SUM TO
ZERO i.e. FOR A SYSTEM OF n PARTICLES:

NEWTONIAN APPROACH

Ex.2 A 4-link mechanism with the following dimensions is acted upon

by a force F on link DC. AD=500 mm, AB=400 mm, BC=1000 mm, DC =
750 mm, DE= 350mm Determine the input torque T on link AB for
static Equilibrium. { Ans: 18.9 N.m}

Fapplied + Fconstra int = 0

so Fapplied = Fconstra int

Fapplied .r = Fconstra int .r = 0

so Fapplied = Fconstra int
