Three-Year Budget
Three Year Budget Proposal for 2016-2019
Metro Middle School
Metro Middle Schools main goal is to collaborate with teachers to
provide students with the skill to gather information, to understand
responsible use of resources, and to acquire a love for reading. The school is
comprised of approximately 250 middle school students in grades six
through eight. This is a Title I charter school where students enter at least
two grade levels behind. Metro Middle School aims to lead students to two
grade levels or more of growth and set them on a path to college readiness,
as measured by the NWEA Measures of Academic Progress (MAP) test. The
media center will play an integral role in setting students on a clear path to
college readiness.
The budget proposal has been prepared by the media specialist. The
media specialist gathered input from the principal, dean of curriculum,
teachers, and students. Also, the media specialist assessed the needs based
on the current inventory in the media center. The media center wants to
expand access to technology. As the digital age progresses, so should
schools in the area of technology. The media center will play a major role in
expanding access to technology. Each classroom is equipped with an LCD
project, document reader, and speakers. The school has the entire
Accelerated Reader System. Additionally, there is a set of 25 desktop macs in
the media center and a total of five MacBook laptops for students to
checkout. The school is need of more resources. The media center has been
allotted $3, 250 and raises about $1,100 from book fair sales each year.
There is a total of $4,350 available for resources each year.

Supplies
Basic office supplies are needed to run the media center. Things such
as paper, pens, staplers, staples, and book repair equipment. These are basic
essentials that are absolutely necessary. Additionally, teachers use the
laminating machine quite often and the lamination film must be replaced
regularly. All of these items will need to be replenished each year.
Equipment
The school is well equipped with LCD projectors, document readers
and, speakers in each classroom. This basic need has been met, so there is
no need for more LCD projectors, document readers, and speakers. The
school does not use Promethean boards. This technology is not necessary
for now. However, the school lacks some other basic equipment. There are
no digital cameras for teachers to use. Teachers like to document their
students in action, but have not been able to do so because there are no
cameras. I would like three digital cameras, which will provide one for each
grade level. Also, a number of MacBook laptops were stolen during a break
in during 2014. The school is in need of laptop carts because the twenty-five
computers in the media center along with the five laptops are not sufficient
to support the need. Many teachers have implemented project based
learning, but students are not able to conduct the necessary research. I
would like to acquire one laptop cart equipped with a class set of laptops
each year for the next three years, but the allotment wont allow. Therefore, I
would like to acquire five laptops each year for the next three years.
Books
The school wants to students to experience at least two years of
growth in reading each year. Also, the school wants to set students on a path
to college readiness in both reading and math. The media center specialist
seeks to support Common Core standards and Georgia Performance
standards. Additionally, the media center aims to foster a love of reading and
would like for each student to read 25 books within thee school year. To
accomplish these goals, we must purchase more reading and math
materials. The media center contains a number of fiction books. However,
there is a great need for non-fiction, reference, and periodicals. I would like

to acquire more reference materials. This will support teachers in teaching
research standards. Also, students who do not have a high interest in books
will read magazines. Many students have requested magazines. This is
another way to encourage students to read. Purchasing more books will
enable the media specialist to foster a love for reading.
Software
Although teacher laptops have the Microsoft Office Suite, the student
computers do not. Students have trouble when working on projects because
they do not have access to this essential software. Also, the media center
aims to ensure that students can properly use Word, Excel, Power Point,
Publisher, etc. I would like to subscribe to Microsoft Office for all laptops in
the building.
Online Database Subscriptions
Teachers are having students engage in more research due to the rise of
project- based learning. Students must engage and inquire a plethora of
topics. Oftentimes, it can be difficult to guide students to credible sources.
Subscriptions to online databases will assist teachers in guiding students
toward credible and relevant sources. Also, teachers can access these
resources themselves with ease because everything that they need is within
one of these databases. The cost of online database subscriptions is worth
spending.
