An Estate Divided
by Jonathan Sun

Nobles and clergymen alike convened today amidst a backdrop of popular insurrection. Despite the need for immediacy, movement toward reform stalled as the differences between reformers and
conservatives became increasingly evident. In one heated exchange,
Yolande de Polastron, a courtier at Versailles, decried a fellow delegate
as a rogue agent and his plans as tantamount to ending the life of
the First Estate. Others, such as Marc Marie recognized the necessity of moderation, putting forth proposals to preserve the monarchy while curbing its excesses. Yet even these measures, intended to
thread the line between radicalism and inaction were met with opposition. It is not our job to cater to the mob, declared a proud Louis
XVI.

A rare moment of unity broke across the committee with the arrival
of grave news: the Bastille had fallen. Regardless of political alignment, a demonstration of force was deemed necessary by all. But
disagreements erupted anew over the specifics. While the conservative wing under Marie Antoinette
called for the use of foreign levies to bolster Frances armies, others feared such actions would alienate
the common people. Assuredly, such a slight would not be met with peace. As the king declared, we do
not negotiate with the rabble.
Whatever their course of action, it has become apparent that if steps are not taken to resolve the worsening crisis, France might soon find itself negotiating with bullets and bayonets.

Clash of the French Social Classes

by Lauren Antoniolli

The Third Estate Committee was hard at work debating tax reform when they were interrupted
by a group of three triumphant French Revolutionaries. The Revolutionaries entered proudly, carrying
weapons and the head of French leader Marquis de Launay on a trident. The men announced that their
violence was in the name of revolution and they represented a large number of people in the Third
Estate that were in favor of violence against the French monarchy in 1789. Members of the committee
agreed that they must take action quickly to prevent further violence and thus, the beginning of the new
French Constitution was established.
Although much of the general population of the Third Estate wanted to dismantle the monarchy and
establish a republic, members of the Third Estate committee agreed that the establishment of a constitutional monarchy would be the best way to initiate reform, while maintaining an effective relationship
with the First and Second estates. Siyes, a member of the Third Estate, believes that maintaining the
legitimacy of the French government is important, and that keeping a monarchy is necessary. However,
he also believes that a compromise should be reached to combat many of the issues in the Third Estate,
especially hunger and lack of representation. The most important thing we can accomplish in this committee is taking steps towards rights for the people, said Siyes. The House of Bourbon and Third Estate
are in the process of writing a reformed Constitution that grants these rights to members of all social
classes while maintaining the legitimacy of the French monarchy and government.

New Lama: Really Tibetan or Chinese?

by Tyeese Braslavsky

In the midst of heated debate on the topic of maintaining sovereignty over regions such as Chinese Taipei, the Chinese Politburo was confronted with the grave news that Dalai Lama, the leader of the
Tibetan population in China, has passed away at the age of 81. Thus informed, the Politburo leaped at the
chance to integrate Tibet as a part of China, something they have long had high on their list, yet never
had the chance to do. As such, they began with the decision that as the central figure of the people, the
new Lama chosen should be Pro-Chinese in his views, so that the rest of the allegiant population would,
consequently, be obliged to follow his policies. However, they agreed upon the fact that the Lama was a
deeply religious figure, and that the Chinese had no authority to impose their choice of the Lama on the
Tibetan population, as that would be a sure-fire path to a rebellion in the region, as well as anger India,
a large supporter of the Tibetan cause and a main rival of the Chinese in the disputed Kashmir region.
Seeing that this could disturb their plans, they chose a different route.

Given that the new Lama would begin his education as a child, in the directive written, the Politburo
gave the power to choose the Lama to Tibet, but with a caveat: there would be a covert committee of 8
people (Tibetan and Chinese officials) responsible for raising the child and indoctrinating him not only
in Buddhist ideology, but also the Communist Partys beliefs, hence conditioning his loyalty to the Chinese government. One would think that the issue wouldve been resolved there, yet Li Zhangshu, Director of the CCP General Office, refused to stop. He wanted to, once and for all, eliminate any possibility of
further rebellion of the Tibetan population and thus proposed the idea of military presence in the region,
an idea which Xu Qiliang, Vice-Chair of the Military, built off of and proposed a transfer of 7% of military equipment funding to military locations in XinJiang and Chengdu, as well as asking Inner Mongolia
to fund the strengthening of the army. And with all these ideas in mind, the Chinese Politburo passed
Directive 8.3 by consensus, and thus was able to ensure the occurrence of the long-anticipated integration of Tibet into China.

Combating Cyber Terrorism: The Fight of the Future

by Amelia Ball & Jonathan Sun

Reaching a consensus on the threats posed by orbital weapons, the delegates of the United Nations Office of Outer Space
Affairs [UNOOSA] began a new discussion today concerning
what exactly constituted as Space Militarization. Realizing that
technology in concurrent use, such as lasers and Intercontinental
Ballistic Missiles [ICBMs], already posed a threat to international
security, delegates moved quickly to ban any devices intended
to cause harm or inflict damage. However, a multitude of other
nations recognized that cyber attacks posed an additional threat
outside of conventional warfare. Leading the discussion on what
they believed to be in the best interests of nations both large and
small, the delegations of India, Iraq, and Luxembourg advocated for an international forum to discuss the issue and promote
scientific cooperation between nations. As debate continued, new
measures to combat cyber terrorism emerged, from establishing
universal standards for encryption to utilizing white-hat hackers(hackers who work with government to expose and fix weaknesses in code).

Meanwhile, in the Disarmament and International Security Committee {DISEC}, the topic of cyber
warfare has been evolving among developing and advanced nations. Establishing short term versus
long term solutions has been a recurring effort, as the constant pressure of our maturing technology has
mounted. The delegates have decided, under the jurisdiction of a globalizing society, that they will incorporate funding, white hat hackers, and outer space affairs for this specific purpose. The nations in DISEC
are looking towards a future with the constant involvement of UNOOSA to better combat cyber warfare.

Americans Abroad - The 1898 Cabinet Wage War in Cuba

by Alex Chaidez

The 1898 Cabinet, otherwise known as the McKinley-Roosevelt Cabinet, began its session with
the topic, Sinking of the USS Maine, while stationed in Havana Bay in Cuba. As the origins of the disaster was unknown, the cabinet quickly launched an investigation, suspecting potential Spanish involvement. Cabinet members also pursued diplomatic talks with the Spanish. After the Spanish government
refused to negotiate with the Cabinet and sent their Armada to Cuba,
the Cabinet declared war on Spain. A press release entitled War Objectives outlined future actions, such as negotiating with the Cuban
people by ensuring their rights and promoting foreign trade, to be
taken by the cabinet to end future atrocities against Cuba.

Since the declaration of war, popular support of the Cabinet from

Cuban Americans have skyrocketed. A majority of Americans
also support the initiative taken by the cabinet, as they view it as
an opportunity to spread ideals of freedom and democracy. Many
members of the Cabinet are currently divided on whether to allow
for Cuban self rule or annex the island for the United States. Other
members argue that the Cubans should be given the opportunity to
choose their own destiny, whereas members like Majority Leader of
the House, Sereno E. Payne, insist the Cubans are not ready for self
rule. The declaration of war also leads to an expansion of American
influence across the globe, extending to the Spanish Philippines. Filipino people have expressed their
indignation over the possibility of American colonization.
While the Secretary of Agriculture James Wilson demands that the wishes of the people be respected,
many cabinet members are still hungry for American presence worldwide.

A Divided US Senate Discusses the Syrian Refugee Crisis

by Alex Chaidez

The United States Senate delivered three resolutions on the topic, US Role and Strategy in the
Middle East, to the floor. Recent interviews with the sponsors of the resolutions exhibit the differences
between the liberal and conservative members of the Senate. Resolution American Intervention For The
Captives of ISIS (AMICI) is sponsored by a Republican coalition. A sponsor of this resolution, Senator
Cornyn (R-TX) explained that it attempts to find a practical solution to the Syrian refugee crisis and to
create an environment in Syria where they do not have to live as refugees. Sen. Cornyn insists the solution must consist of the elimination of ISIS through the coordination of American friendly militants in
the region.
Resolution Trilateral and Bipartisan Paper prides itself on being, according to Senator Udall (D-NM),
attractive to both sides of America. This paper includes the creation of a subcommittee to oversee an

assimilation plan, allowing more refugees to settle safely in

America. Senator Udall also said, The paper also supports
the Syrian [Interim] Government to make sure the government can properly take care of their citizens.
Resolution 3 is predominantly sponsored by Democratic
senators. Senator Menendez (D-NJ), a sponsor on the resolution, states the paper increases [15 trillion] funds to refugee camps and foreign countries[which will] be dispersed
to deal with humanitarian issues.
Although the sponsors of Resolution Trilateral and Bipartisan Paper and Resolution 3 have expressed interest
in a friendlier negotiation, the acceptance of refugees into
the United States clearly separate these resolutions from
Resolution AMICI. Sen. Udall stated, They [Republicans]
are baring all refugees, but America needs to do part. The
divided Congress will continue to work through the refugee
crisis, even as they battle amongst themselves.
