After he reads the card, I will ask his how to spell the word. He will spell the word out loud.
The student will then write the word on the opposite side of the index card. I will help as needed
by sounding out the words or showing him the front of the index card again,
After the student has written the word, that index card will be set aside.
This process will be repeated for all five spelling words.
Tiered by complexity:
Because this is an individual lesson, no tiering will be seen. It is an extension lesson for
practicing the students weekly spelling words. His words are different than those of his
classmates. He is being supported in reading and writing cvc words while the other students in
his class are working on second grade level spelling words.
Closure/assessment:
I will show the student one index card at a time. He will read each card out loud.
- If the student reads five out of five words correctly, he will have mastered the lesson objective.
- If the student reads three to four out of five words correctly, his performance of the lesson
objective will be considered acceptable.
- If the student reads less than three of the words correctly, his performance of the lesson
objective will be considered unacceptable.
Materials:
One index card per word (an, can, pan, man, ran) prewritten.
