STANDARD 1.0: EXAMINE THE VIDEO PRODUCTION INDUSTRY
1.1: RESEARCH EVENTS THAT LED TO CURRENT PRACTICES
Introduction to Standard: This helped me know more about the history of media and video
productions.
1.1.1 Develop a timeline for major technological developments and events in the history of
media
Title of Video/Article:

Summary of video/article, including how it meets/addresses the standard.
If you already have an In and an Out Point on your clip into the Source Panel, the way to
remove them is to right click and select Clear In and Out. Three keyboard shortcuts are J, K,
and L. J plays the clip in reverse. L key plays the clip forward. K pauses the clip if it is playing.
Spacebar also pauses the clip. Pressing I selected an in and O selects an out key. Holding K
and tapping L moves it frame by frame. Holding both K and L will move it in slow motion. To
undo something, press Command.
1.1.2 Explain the importance of industry pioneers and significant moments in media history

Marking and Targeting Destinations in the Timeline
If you have the playhead on at a certain point on the timeline, you can click I and it will set an In
point. When you take a clip into the timeline, thats where it will start. If you want to find the
exact end of a clip, hold shift down while adjusting the playhead. This will act as a magnet and
snap the playhead to the ending of the clip.

1.1.3 Analyze the influence of mass media on society

When you are putting in a clip, make sure the playhead is exactly where you want it. When you
have the playhead positioned, press I and that will set an In point. This is where youre clip will
start. If you want to redo this, you simply click Command + Z and this will undo your last move.
If you want to redo multiple steps, hold Command + Z + shift.
1.2: INVESTIGATE INDUSTRY ETHICS AND LAWS
Introduction to Standard: This helped me understand and investigate industry ethics and laws.
1.2.1 Define terms applicable to ethics & laws (e.g., plagiarism, copyright law, libel, slander, etc.)
Title of Video/Article: Terms for Video Production
Author: Chad Perkins
Date of Entry: December 27th
Summary of video/article, including how it meets/addresses the standard.
Aperture is measured using F-stop and the depth of field. They vary from every lens that is
used. Lower the f-stop, the bigger the aperture, the higher the f-stop, the smaller the aperture. F
stands for fraction. Example: If you have a 100 mm lens, and your aperture is f/4, you do 100
divided by 4 to get the aperture diameter (25mm).
1.2.2 Discuss how to legally obtain and use source materials for production purposes
Title of Video/Article: Production Purposes
Author: Brian Liepe
Date of Entry: December 28th
Summary of video/article, including how it meets/addresses the standard.
If the aperture is bigger, the depth of field is decreased, which means it is more narrow and
more blurred. The smaller the aperture (Closed), the depth of field is increased and there is
more detail less blurred. In the video, it said as a rule, All lenses create their sharpest images
when the aperture is at least two stops down from wide open ( the biggest it can possibly go).

1.2.3 Explain copyright laws/issues that pertain to video production

Title of Video/Article: Copywrite Rules

Author: Chad Perkins
Date of Entry: December 29th
Summary of video/article, including how it meets/addresses the standard.
Slowing down the shutter speed will increase exposure. Exposure makes the details more
grainy and sharp. You are letting in more light with the slowed shutter speed. Shutter speed is
measured in time, a fraction of one second. So, for example, if you need to shoot at 24fps, your
shutter speed should be 1/48 (Doubled). If its at 30fps, it should be 1/60. If you do not have the
exact shutter speed on your camera, use the closest one possible.
1.2.4 Summarize legal and ethical acquisition and use of digital materials, giving attribution
using established methods
Title of Video/Article: Digital Materials

Summary of video/article, including how it meets/addresses the standard.
Shutter adjustment can affect the motion blur and the exposure. With a faster shutter, theres
more exposure and less motion blur. With a slower shutter, there is more motion blur and less
exposure. You want more exposure when you are shooting action scenes. You want more
motion blur when you are shooting something light, like bicycles or water running.
1.2.5 Research and follow Federal Communications Commission (FCC) regulations
Title of Video/Article: FCC

Summary of video/article, including how it meets/addresses the standard.
ISO is a numerical scale that refers to sensitivity of a cameras sensor. If you lower the iso, the
sensor becomes less sensitive to light. When increasing it, it adds noise and grain, which is bad,
unless you want a certain effect on your film.

1.2.6 Discuss video and audio consents for assigned projects

Title of Video/Article: Video and Audio
Author: Chad Perkins
Date of Entry: January 1st
Summary of video/article, including how it meets/addresses the standard.
Increasing the iso makies the sensor more snsitive to light. It moves poorly, its not
monochromatic, and you dont want the sensor too high. (6400). The colors become less

saturated and do not pop as much if it is too high. Even though it doesnt look like it has noise
on your screen, when you go to blow it up on a screen, it will. But it can possibly help you in low
light if you absolutely need it to be brighter.
1.2.7 Discuss the First Amendment guarantees relating to video production
Title of Video/Article: First Amendment

Big sensors have very shallow depth of field. It sometimes creates beautiful images but it can be
difficult if you want everything in detail. It depends on the camera if you have a large sensor.
The camera eye can see more depending on what type of camera you are using.
1.2.8 Explain proper attribution (citing) procedures
Title of Video/Article:How To Cite

Most cameras have a sweet spot ISO. This means that there is a certain ISO setting that gets
better results. This is called the native ISO. Some cameras have a Highlight Priority Mode
which sort of blends the colors and makes them look better and smoother. But the problem is
that it disables your native ISOs.
1.3: EXPLAIN STAGES OF THE VIDEO PRODUCTION PROCESS
Introduction to Standard: This helped me explain stages of the video production process and
how to understand it.
1.3.1 List the components of the pre-production phase (e.g., purpose, script writing, target
audience, budget, schedule, script writing, output medium, etc.)

This video showed me how to use basic principles of After Effects. This software uses may
definitions and terms that people use in Video Productions and Media. This software can be
used in the Pre-Production phase. This software helped me out a lot and I think I can use it later
on.

1.3.2 Conduct a pre-production meeting to create a production plan

Title of Video/Article: Production Plans
Author: Amanda Stone
Date of Entry: January 5th
Summary of video/article, including how it meets/addresses the standard.
This video summarized how production plans actually work. They showed you also how to use
Premire Pro and how the basics work. When you first open up Premiere Pro, it shows you three
options: New Project, Open Project, and Help. Open Project means you can open one you
recently worked on. New Project means that you can start a new one. Help means that you can
find help on any questions you might have. When you open a new project, you can choose what
type of camera you used and how many frames per second you want.
A Tour of the Interface
If your workspace seems different, you can reset it to its original settings by going to
Window<Reset Workspace. There is a Source Monitor in the upper left hand corner. Aside to it,
is a Program Monitor. That is where the final video will be displayed. Underneath it is your
timeline. This is where you can edit your clips. The audio is on the right, next to it. When your
video is playing, this will show you how loud the audio is. When you hit the spacebar, your video
will play at whatever spot you are currently on.

For macs, Preferences is under Premiere Pro. For PCs, its under the Edit and its all the way at
the bottom. Appearance you can drag so that its brighter or darker. This will only affect the
outsides of the program. Auto Save means you can change how many times it saves per
minutes. Under Window>Workspace>Import Workspace

There are many ways to import files and folders. One of the ways is to go to one of the drop
down menus and click on File>Import. For a keyboard shortcut: MAC- cmd+i PC: ctrl+I. When
the window pops up, find the video you want to import and click OK. You can switch to list or
thumbnail view. If you do not want to look at all files, in the dropbox menu you can switch so you
are only looking at a specific file. Separating your files into folders will make it easier to
distinguish certain types of files.

If you need to import media from a SD card from a DSLR camera, it is a bit different. First, you
need to get your hands on a card reader. Take your SD card and find the slot on the reader. A
window will pop up and you need to find the media you want to import. Select it and move it to
safe area - most likely a folder or a flash drive where you will be able to select it easily. Now that
your media is imported, you can eject your SD card. From here, you can open your media in
Premiere Pro.
1.4: INVESTIGATE VARIOUS ROLES IN VIDEO PRODUCTION

Title of Video/Article: Paying the Job
Author: Edward Lawler
Date of Entry: January 13th

Summary of video/article, including how it meets/addresses the standard.

- Paying the Job is a traditional way that organizations determine the amount of pay an
individual makes. If you're a manager what you make most cases and what people who work for
you make is determined by the kind of job, the nature of the job, the characteristics of the job
that you have and they have. It's an important point because it separates you as an individual,
your skills, your inclinations, from what you're paid, it's the job that you are doing. It's not true in
all organizations.
