There is no place like home.

This is always a passage by everyone who has been into

other places for quite some time. It is a statement affirming that the place where you have grown
plays an important role in the development of ones life and journey and can never be replaced
any place no matter how grandeur it is as compared to your native land.
The play New Yorker from Tondo is an exact portrayal of how a person has been
acculturated by the things from the place where she had been. The scenes were very realistic
such that it uses plain language in the conversations. This implies that the play has considered
local picture so as to deliver the theme of the play.
There was a typical girl who lives in Tondo with big dreams named Kikay. She is a
puto vendor who accidentally learned about a scholarship grant to New York from the Chismosa
Ladies in the streets and tried her best to avail it. Fortunately, Kikays petition to study was
approved. It only shows that theres no harm in trying and in her case, its good because she
made it. This means that when opportunity comes, grab it because its elusive enough to be
wasted. Who knows? That certain opportunity may be our most-awaited time and way for
making our aspirations come true.
Living to other country with different culture like New York also attests how strong her
personality is and her identity as a Filipino. Meeting and engaging with the local people there
like Alexis, Coreen, Sophia Cassandra, The Image Stylist Gardo, The Happy Go Lucky Guy
Henry and Isabel with other classmates do influenced Kikays view and way of life. She learned
and adopted the New Yorker customs, behavior and lifestyle. This fact eventually turned her into
a new person, far from what she used to be in Tondo.

As applied to human experience, it is a fact that when someone had gone to the United
States, all praises are given to him/her. And it is a fact also that when that person has arrived to
the country, he/she would brag what is there and try to be like the people there.
From experience, people who had been in the US were looked up by many especially
those who are in the marginalized sector. Probably because of the lifestyle they had in the US as
displayed by them. In addition, people who had been in the US usually removed from their ways
the culture they had and changed in favor of the US culture.
It is so pathetic that people who had been to US are like that. It is somewhat demeaning
on the part of other Filipinos who are always proud of their identity as Filipinos.
Though the situations are presented in satirical way, it touch the heart of the readers.
