3. Discuss the pros and cons of the 12 criteria for evaluation described by Kotora (2001) on
p.142.Then, decide on the criteria for grading your future high school students and assign
percentages for grading each. (BT 9-8 p.143)
The grading criteria on page 142 includes various characteristics, some good, and some bad. It is
extremely important that each students grade be based on not only performance, but also
assessment in other forms as well, such as singing tests, or quizzes. In addition, whether or not
the student has been actively contributing is also an important factor to add to the final grade.
By doing so, students who are not as gifted or as quick learners do not feel unaccomplished, even
if they tried. However, this makes it extremely hard to keep track, because every student
deserves personal attention. A proficient teacher would be able to do so, but regardless, it is
extremely difficult. By implementing applications such as smartmusic, it would become easier
for teachers to grade students, as clear criteria are laid out for the students to meet.
My Grading Critera:
1. Performance (30%)
A. Performances in large ensemble
B. Performances in small ensemble
2. Assignments (20%)
A. Assignments for reflection
B. Assignments for conceptual understanding
3. Tests (30%)
A. Singing Tests
B. Written Tests
4. Participation(10%)
5. Attendance(10%)
