Sen Yang
Produced By: Sen Yang
Album: Writing 2 Is a Troublemaker
[Intro:]
Look, I am a bad writer since I was thirteen
And writing 2 is killing me every time I saw my shitty grades
But I have learnt how to write perfect final drafts
[Chorus:]
Im beginning to feel like a gorgeous author, author
Many shitty writer consider my first drafts as random paper, paper
But it doesnt matter,
We can totally write a perfect final draft.
[Verse 1:]
According to Anne Lamott, it is okay to write first drafts as shit
Remember that the shitter we write for the first drafts, the more progressive
space well earn
If we pay time to think about it more, clear our minds more, and ask for help
more,

Nothing can stop us getting awesome final drafts

So you know, this is how we end up with good second drafts and wonderful
third drafts
[Chorus:]
Im beginning to feel like a gorgeous author, author
Many shitty writer consider my first drafts as random paper, paper
But it doesnt matter
We can totally write a perfect final draft.
[Verse 2:]
Also, remember this, good thinking is crucial for final drafts
Elbow Peter teach us first and second-order thinking matters about writing
wonderful papers
First thinking is to be creative
Second thinking is to be directive and sensitive
[Chorus:]
Im beginning to feel like a gorgeous author, author
Many shitty writer consider my first drafts as random paper, paper
But it doesnt matter
We can totally write a perfect final draft

[Verse 3:]
The last thing I can share is my experience tells that rhetorical analysis is a
good use
To convince your audience, which make you get good grades of final papers
Laura Bolin Carrol also wrote article, Backpacks vs. Briefcases: Steps toward
Rhetorical Analysis, telling people the importance and examples of
Egos, logos, pathos are core of rhetorical analysis
Try to use these examples in your papers more
Then drop your shitty first drafts
And get perfect final drafts

How to
good
drafts

write
final

By Sen Yang

There are three steps to write good final

drafts
The first step for us is not to be sad
About our bad first drafts
A bad first drafts is very normal
It is okay to write a bad first rough draft
This is how we end up with wonderful
second or third drafts

Yang5

Like our first time of making bad cookies

Our goal is to become better and stronger
Second step is to reorganize our thinking
The order of thinking is key
To writing good papers
First order is to be creative
Second order is to be directive
The final step is to use
Ethos, logos, pathos
Ethos means character,
And the ethical appeal asks the audience to
Believe writer is a person of good character
Pathos stimulates emotion in an audience.
While pathos appeals to the heart,
Logos appeals to the head
Provides a well-supported argument
They are good ways
To convince readers

And to write good final drafts.

Metacognitive Essay of Two Genres
To choose the open genres in the final work-project, I thought about a
lot of options like movie scripts, magazine articles, and song lyrics.
Eventually, I have choose two open genres; one is rap lyrics for older people
than me, and the other one is children poem for younger people than me.
Throughout that process of research, planning, and writing I learned a lot
about myself as a genre author. The reason why I choose these two genres is
I push myself to be creative as much as possible. It seems that nobody will
choose rap lyrics as the genre to write, and I am pretty familiar with rap, this
kind of music, so rap lyrics will be a perfect option for me. Also, children
poem is a good option for me, because I am interested in writing poems, and
I understand how young kids think and feel. As for the major concept from
the readings, Shitty First Drafts written by Anne Lamott, I also think that
how we can improve our first drafts to turn to excellent second drafts or third
drafts, so I also read and write some parts from Teaching Two Kinds of
Thinking by Teaching Writing written by Elbow Peter, and Backpacks vs.

Briefcases: Steps toward Rhetorical Analysis written by Laura Bolin Carrol. In

completing the WP3, I have learned to find proper models to explore each
genres conventions to produce the open genres correctly, and to translate
words and sentences of required readings to fit the selected genres formats.
Firstly, appropriate models are truly helpful and effective for me to
explore each genres conventions and noticeable parts. For the first genre,
rap lyrics, I am familiar with rap but not the writing genre. I also watch rap
lyrics when I listen to rap, so I believe people who watched rap lyrics want to
know what the lyrics meaning, and these lyrics should be clear for people to
watch. When I looked up Rap God, one of my favorite rap of Eminem,
online, there are lots of web pages wring the lyrics. There are several parts
like intro, verse, and chorus, showing Rap God is so typical and formal for
newers to learn this genre. So I decided to take Rap God as my model to
analyze the conventions of rap lyrics. After looking at the web page, I have
noticed that there two obvious parts. The first one is the formation for the
rap lyrics, like the centered organization, and italic style. The second parts is
the choice of words. There are many slangs in this model like killem and
many repetitions of words like slap box to accompany with rhythms. This
model is wonderful for me to produce my own work, because I basically know
how to write like a rap lyric author. In my open genre 1, I used the formats
which put the entire work in the center places in the pages for audience to
read clearly and obviously. Also, I use several slangs like yall and shitty
that are not right words for children, showing older people are my intended

Yang8

audience. For the second genre, I was writing magazine article in my PB3A,
but both genre are for older people than me, which does not fit the
requirements of assignments, so I changed it into children poem for younger
audience who are less educated then me. I found a children poem called
Our Kittens written by Evaleen Stein, which satisfies my old memory when
I was a little kid to read poem. Its patterns, word choice, and context are
direct to young kids. I have learnt several distinguishing conventions of
children poem. Considering it as a proper example, I have inserted one
cartoon image of writing related to my concepts, have kept front space to
make it more like poem, and have used different colors to decorate words to
motivate young kids to read them. Since I found two great and formal
examples of these two genres, which I acquired many information about
each genre, I use these distinguishing conventions to create my own open
genres. The proper examples are great help and effective tools for me whose
first language is not English to know these two genres well.
Secondly, speaking of contexts, I did a great job to translate readings
concepts, sentences, or words to fit into each genres style after realizing
each genres conventions. The original articles are academic writing which is
objective and academic. In the first genre, rap lyrics. I have tired changing
the tone and world choice. Rap lyrics is kind of a communication with people,
so I use a lot of youand I that occurs a lot in Rap God, making it more
like a casual talk. For example, almost all good writing begins with terrible
first efforts (Lamott, 3) is the main argument about Shitty First Draft. In

Yang9

my open genre 1, my argument is it is okay to write first draft as shit. We

and shit are designed for the genre specifically, showing this genre is for a
litter older people than me, and that the word choice and voice tone are not
limited, which express the freedom that rap authors admire. Compared to
rap lyrics, children poem use different world choice to express the same
meaning. The first step for us is not to be sad about our bad first drafts is
the argument of my open genre 2. However, I replace shit with bad, and
turn okay to not to be sad to make it more direct to young children.
Poems are full of emotions and sincerity, so not to be sad is more sincere
than okay. Also bad is designed for younger audience like 6-year
children.
Above all, finding proper models for identifying unfamiliar genres are
effective for me, letting know eachs distinguishing conventions and utilizing
these knowledge on my open genres. Also, after knowing much information, I
kind of handle rightly to translate the readings concept into right forms for
different genres. During the process of completing WP3, I understand how to
realize genres conventions, how to write my own open genre and make
change of words to intended audience, so I feel I am more like a professional
author in the specific open genres..
