Some animals do
not look anything
like their parents
when they are
born. This total
change is called
a
metamorphosis.
Other animals
look like small
versions
of
their
parents
when they are
born. They do
not go through
metamorphosis
Complete Metamorphosis
A butterfly starts its life as
an egg.
The larva (caterpillar)
hatches from an egg and
eats leaves or flowers
almost constantly.
It turns into a pupa this is
a resting stage.
A beautiful, flying adult
butterfly emerges.
Incomplete Metamorphosis
Dragonfly lay their egg in
water.
Nymphs then spend some
time in the water to
continue its
metamorphosis.
Once nymphs shed their
skin, they spend the rest of
their life out of the water.
Metamorphosis
The mother frog lay her
eggs in the pond.
Tadpoles hatch from the
eggs and live in the pond.
The tadpoles turn into
Froglets. The body shrinks
and legs form.
The Froglets tail srinks, the
lungs develop and the back
legs grow and then we have
a Frog.
