OBJECTIVES: The students will demonstrate how to work with teammates in basketball lead up
game, as demonstrated by the instructor.
CALIFORNIA PE STANDARDS:
Introductory Activity: 1.14 Dribble a ball (by hand or foot) while preventing another person
from stealing the ball.
Fitness Activity: 3.7 Sustain continuous movement for an increasing period of time while
participating in moderate to vigorous physical activities.

Lesson Focus: 1.16 Pass a ball back and forth with a partner, using a chest pass and
bounce pass.

Game: 2.1 Explain the importance of open space in playing sport-related games.
PART 1: INTRODUCTORY ACTIVITY (2-3 mins):
Activity
Dribble and Pivot
- Each student will get a basketball and
dribble around the coned area. Every time I
blow the whistle, the students will stop
pivot and dribble the other direction.

Teaching Hints
Alternate right and left hands while
dribbling.
Change your pivot foot every other time.

PART 2: FITNESS DEVELOPMENT ACTIVITY (8-12 mins):

PART 3: LESSON FOCUS (15-20 mins):
Activity
Passing
- Each student will partner up with one
person and get one ball.
- The students will demonstrate a proper
chest, bounce, and over-head pass, as
demonstrated by the instructor.
Basic Shooting Drill
- Each student will get a ball on find open
space on the wall and work on both free
throws and jump shots.
- We will divide the class into 2 groups, one
line on each cone.
- The student in front of the line will shoot
the ball get his or her own rebound and
pass to the next person in line.

PART 4: GAME ACTIVITY (5 mins):


Activity
- Sideline basketball
- The class will be divided into 2 groups,
lined up on each side of the court.
- 3 players from each side will play 3 on 3
half-court basketball game for one minute,
on the whistle 3 new players from each
side will rotate in and play.

Teaching Hints
Students must keep their eyes on the
target, step towards the target, and use
their thumbs while passing.
Throw the ball chest level to partner.
While shooting students must use
fingertips, keep their elbows in, and must
keep their eyes on the rim.
Students must also stay square to the rim
during the jump shot.

Teaching Hints
Must be positive on the effort not the
talent.
Give specific feedback to the individual
students.
