Honors American Lit Research Project 2006

Historical Fiction Short Story

We will be covering Modern American Literature up until the 1930s in this class, and I
thought that the best research project would be to follow this up. Rather than write a
formal research paper, you will be creating your own short historical fiction piece based
off of an event that occurred in the US or involving US citizens between 1940 and 2001.
The following guidelines should be used when creating your original short story:
2-3 pages typed in Times New Roman 12pt. Font double spaced.
No longer than 3 pages!!!
Based on a historical event from 1940 to 2001
Use 3-5 reliable sources
Must have at least 2 characters
Main character must be original (supporting characters can be historical figures )

Since this is your major research assignment, I want you to hand in each section as it is
completed. The following due dates are when each portion is to be handed in. If you
finish a section prior to this date, you may hand it in at that point; but each section
should not be completed until the previous part is returned.
Schedule:
Topic Selection (only one student per period may choose each historical event)
Preliminary Synopsis (basic like a book jacket or movie synopsis)
