This European Standard was approved by CEN on 1997-12-21.

CEN members are bound to comply with the CEN/CENELEC Internal Regulations
which stipulate the conditions for giving this European Standard the status of a
national standard without any alteration.
Up-to-date lists and bibliographical references concerning such national standards may be obtained on application to the Central Secretariat or to any CEN
member.
The European Standards exist in three official versions (English, French, German).
A version in any other language made by translation under the responsibility of a
CEN member into its own language and notified to the Central Secretariat has the
same status as the official versions.
CEN members are the national standards bodies of Austria, Belgium, the Czech

Foreword
This European Standard has been prepared by Technical Committee ECISS/TC 11 Structural steel sections,
the secretariat of which is held by BSI.
This European Standard shall be given the status of a national standard, either by publication of an identical
text or by endorsement, and conflicting national standards withdrawn, by February 1999 at the latest.
The discussions within ECISS/TC 11 were based on EURONORMs 56 and 57 and ISO 657-1 and ISO 657-2.
According to the CEN/CENELEC Internal Regulations, the national standards organisations of the following
countries are bound to implement this European Standard: Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Spain,
Sweden, Switzerland and the United Kingdom.

Scope

This Part of this European Standard specifies requirements for the nominal dimensions of hot-rolled equal and
unequal leg angles. This European Standard does not apply to angles with square roots, nor to equal and
unequal leg angles rolled from stainless steel. Tolerances for equal and unequal leg angles are given in
EN 10056-2.

Normative references

Normen-Download-Beuth-Achenbach Buschhtten GmbH-KdNr.10131-LfNr.4803819001-2010-02-16 16:14

This European Standard incorporates by dated or undated reference provisions from other publications. These
normative references are cited at the appropriate places in the text, and the publications are listed hereafter.
For dated references, subsequent amendments to or revisions of any of these publications apply to this
European Standard only when incorporated in it by amendment or revision. For undated references, the latest
edition of the publication referred to applies.

Definition of steel products

Structural steel equal and unequal leg angles Part 2: Tolerances on shape and dimensions

Definitions

For the purposes of this European Standard, the definitions in EN 10079 apply.

Designation

The designation of hot-rolled equal and unequal angles shall comprise:

1) the letter L for angles;
2) the number of this European Standard;
3) the leg length, a (in mm);
4) the leg length, a or b (in mm);
5) the leg thickness, t (in mm).
EXAMPLE:
L EN 10056-1 70 70 7 or
L EN 10056-1 50 30 5

Dimensions

Hot-rolled equal and unequal angles complying with this European Standard shall be delivered with the dimensions given in tables 1 and 2 and illustrated in figures 1 and 2.

is the leg length, in millimetres.
NOTE 2: The mass has been calculated on the basis of density of steel of 7,85 kg/dm3.
I is the moment of inertia,
Z is the section modulus, and
r is the radius of gyration (the subscripts x, y, u and v denote the relevant axis).
