Your Target
At the end of this activity, you will gain competence in managing time space and
resources to provide an environment in which is appropriate to the learners and
conducive to learning.

Your Map
To reach your target, do the following tasks:
Observe a class.
Using a checklist, find out the evident
classroom components.
Describe how the classroom is
structured/designed to allow everyone to
participate in the learning activities.
Relate the data in your checklist to the
learners behaviour.
Reflect on how classroom management
affects learning.

Your Tools
Use the activity form provided for you to document your observations.

An Observation Guide for the Learners Characteristics

Read the following statements carefully. Then write your observation report on the
provided space.
1. As you observe the class, look into the characteristics of the learners. Note their ages.
2. How many boys are there? How many girls?
3. Focus on their behaviour. Are they already able to manage their own behaviour?
4. Can the learners already work independently?
5. Describe their span of attention.
6. Look into their listening skills and ability to concentrate.

Observed Students Behavior and Classroom Facilities.
Location of the School Centro St., Lawang Bato, Valenzuela City
Date of Visit January 14, 2015

1. Based on my observation, I think they are around 12-14 yrs. Old. They are too
noisy when the teacher is not around. They are playing something there, having
some little chitchat with their friends and also they always want to go outside of
the classroom.
2. In one section that I have been observe, there are 24 boys and 22 girls.
3. No. because grade 7 students are on the stage of adjustment. And they also want
to play and play instead of doing something that is for the matured people.
4. It depends on the work that will be assigned to them by their teacher. But all I
can say is that they can do things with some guidance of their teacher.
5. They are not giving their 100% of attention during class, but all I can say is that,
if something caught their attention they will easily get interested to it.
6. As I said a while ago, if there is something interesting caught their attention,
they will listen. But if it is not beyond of their interest they would not want to
listen.

An Observation Guide for the CLASSROOM VISIT

Be guided by these questions as you do your observation of the classroom
management. It is also good to ask the teacher for additional information so you can
verify your observation. Write your notes below; and then organize your data in the
table that follows.
1. Are there areas in the classroom for specific purposes (storage of teaching
aids, books, students belongings, supplies, etc.)
2. Are there rules and procedures posted in the room?
3. Did the students participate in making the classroom rules?
4. What are the daily routines done by the teacher? (prayer, attendance,
assignment of monitors, warm-up activities, etc.) How are they done?
5. Is there a seating arrangement? What is the basis of this arrangement?
6. Observe the noise level in the classroom. How is this managed?
7. If a learner is not following instructions or is off-task, what does the teacher
do?
8. What does the teacher do to reinforce positive behaviours? (behaviour
strategies)
Observation notes:
Some of the classroom have a storage of their things but some of the classroom
has no cabinet neither any storage. Rules are being verbally implemented and there is no
written rules in there. I dont think so because as I observed only the teacher implements
the rule. Before the teacher comes in, the student arrange the chair properly and clean the
room. And when the teacher comes in she check the attendance, answer their assignment
and they proceed for the next lesson. Seating arrangement was present and their basis was
the one excel in the lesson-the good one-has difficulty-the good one-the one who excel.
The teacher can easily manage the noise. If the student didnt follow the instruction the
teacher explain it again. The teacher give praises in the student so that they will be
motivated to participate in the class.

Immediately given

students can easily

go to their respected
classroom
immediately and on
time.
Students may regret
the rules if there is
no hand written or
written rules inside
the classroom.

Systematize routines
makes the students
repeatedly doing it
until they can do it
on their own.
Through an effective
seating arrangement,
students can have
their peer tutoring.
The teacher has a
signal to the students
thats why students
know when they will
shut their mouth.
Because it was given
immediately,
students boost their
self-esteem in
participating such
classroom activities,
recitation etc.

Your Analysis
1. How did the classroom organization and routines affect the learners behaviour?
because of repeatedly doing the routines, students know what to do first
before the lesson starts. Because of this, time consuming will be lessen rather than
in the first two weeks of applying it.
2. What should the teacher have in mind when she/he designs the classroom
organization and routines? What theories and principles should you have in mind?
For me, the teachers mind set that time while she design her classroom
organization and routines is to developed the discipline and participation of the
students. For me Thorndikes law of learning will fit in this kind of situation.

3. Which behaviour strategies were effective in managing the behaviour of the

learners? In motivating students> Why were they effective?
Maybe instead of giving them punishment, teacher must give them a role in
the classroom to make themselves being a discipline students that can handle the
noise of her students.

Your Reflections
1. Improve yourself organizing your classroom in the future. In what grade/year level
do you see yourself? What routines and procedures would you consider for this
level? Why?
For me, I want to handle a grade 7 students, I know that they are not
matured yet, but because I want them to improve I want to be strict in the sense
that they will become a discipline one. In such a way that academically strict but
not in their attitude. Maybe I ask them such rule that may help them to develop
such maturity in their own and also I suggest my own too. My routines while
having my class? I cannot tell yet because I observe some teachers who has their
own routines that was perfectly fit in the students.
2. Make a list of the rules you are likely to implement in this level. Why would you
choose these rules?
(1) Students can talk in a soft way. Make sure that it will not disturb the
class. (2) Questions or clarifications are acceptable but make sure it has an essence
in the class. (3)Students must listen carefully during class. (4) All students must
actively participate in the class. No one has a special treatment.one has a special
treatment.
I want to implement this rule because I want them to discipline themselves
on their own. I only want them to follow this certain rule of mine and it surely
makes me happy.
3. Should learners be involved in making the class rules? Why?

Yes, because they know what should be improve in their self. And if they
are involve they will be free to express their side.
