Help make it a Good Friday

By Jessica Howard

Bacchus Marsh Lions Club are gearing

up for their biggest annual fundraiser
and they need your help.
Volunteers are being sought for The
Good Friday Appeal, which raises
money for the Royal Childrens Hospital
and will be held this Easter on April 3.
Lions Club raised over $27,000 for the
appeal last year, helping the overall

fundraising project reach a new record

of more than $17,000,000.
Bacchus Marsh area manager David
Atterbury said all volunteers would
be issued with a free nametag, high
visibility vest and collection can.
If you have spare time, either in the
days leading up to Good Friday or on
the day itself, please donate that time
and assist in raising funds for the Royal
Childrens Hospital, he said.

Donations to the appeal can be made

at the Bacchus Marsh Fire Station, with
a receipt issued for tax purposes on any
donation of $2 or more.
Mr Atterbury said purple donation cans
would also be placed on the counters of
local businesses supporting the cause.
Closer to Good Friday you will

The Halletts Way southern extension
project has begun.
Moorabool Shire Mayor Allan Comrie
was joined by Victorian senator Bridget
McKenzie in the first turning of the sod
on Monday (March 21).
Works on the southern extension
project will include a bridge to extend
Halletts Way over the Werribee River
and into West Maddingley, creating a
new north-south traffic route.
Mr Comrie said he was very proud to
mark the beginning of a project that
had been spoken about within the
community for over 30 years.
The project involves the construction
of a road extension as part of the
establishment of the western link road

This targeted investment program

a local level whilst making sure our
bridges are actually capable of carrying
heavier vehicles, she said.
Here in Bacchus Marsh, this bridge

Modelling actually shows that once

The Halletts Way southern extension
project is set to be completed by early

Cell harbours history

By Jessica Howard
A portable police cell less
than one square metre in
size has been restored in
Bacchus Marsh.

Margaret Simpson, a volunteer at the local heritage

listed site, said the old cell
was extremely heavy, with a
cage-like cast iron frame and
thick weatherboard planks.

When it was used here in

son, did a fantastic job.

There were a group of

people, like Barbara Manly
who is very well known in
the town, that decided it was
an important part of Bacchus
Marsh history, so Victoria
Police agreed to donate it to
the Blacksmiths Cottage and
Forge committee, Ms Simpson said.

However, in February 2015,

a storm brought down a
pine tree from a neighbouring property, destroying the
roof and damaging various
parts of the cell. Moorabool
Shire council insurance covered the cost of repairs and
the Lions Club commenced
a second restoration project.

During renovations at the

Bacchus Marsh police station
in the early 2000s, a group
of local residents offered to
take on the cell in order to
keep its history alive.

The old cell dates back to

the 1860s, where it was used
during the Gold Rush to
temporarily withhold offenders. Over a century later,
it made its way to Bacchus
Marsh where it now calls the
Blacksmiths Cottage and
Forge home.

The bolts and nuts are now

rusted because of its old age,
so it cant actually be used
now, however it was particularly useful during the Gold
Rush to detain criminals as
they didnt want to put up a
permanent police lockup because the next day all of the
miners would have gone to
the next gold field, she said.

summer and extremely cold

in the winter. There was no
furniture inside besides the
toilet, Ms Simpson said.

1970s it was used as a holding cell rather than longterm imprisonment. It was
used for those who were
waiting for transportation
to other prisons or jails, or to

the courts in Melbourne.

The cell, which measures

around 2.7-metres high and
less than one square metre,
had nothing but a stainless
steel toilet and its four walls.
Following the 1990s, it was

decided that the cell was

no longer fit for humanitarian reasons and it became a
place for local police storage.

For many years it was used
as storage, until we decided that it was time for a
renovation.
The Bacchus Marsh Lions
Club, who was looking for
a project at the time, offered
to help with the restoration
and, according to Ms Simp-

all of the wrought and galvanised iron, the guttering
and the down pipes and repainted it under the supervision of a heritage architect,

proud.

There may have been delays, but 12-months later it

is completed and we now
have a little relic of Victorias
penal history, Ms Simpson
said.

The old police cell is available for viewing at the Blacksmiths Cottage and Forge
located at the corner of Main

Welcoming chuckles and chortles

By Jessica Howard
The long-awaited Darley
Early Years Hub is so close
you can almost hear the
sound of childrens laughter.
Members of local, state
and federal governments
attended the development
site on March 11 to celebrate
the turning of the soil, despite works already well
underway.

Moorabool Shire Council committed $2.75million to the project back in

2014, which will provide
154 kindergarten places
for four-year-olds and 80
kindergarten places for
three-year-olds.

In September of that year

with then Moorabool Mayor
Cr. Paul Tatchell, Wendy
Lovell, Victorian Liberal
Minister for Children and
Early Childhood Development at the time, announced
and pledged the remaining
$1.6 million needed to complete the project.
Current Mayor Allan Comrie said council recognised
that investment in early
learning years was vitally
important for children to
reach their full potential.

Especially in terms of social, health, educational and

economic outcomes later in
life, he said.
Located next to Pentland
Primary School and adjoining the Darley council office
complex, the hub will also
offer occasional care, playgroups, maternal and child
health, family services and
early childhood intervention
services all under the one
roof.
Member for Melton, Don
Nardella said with the everexpanding growth of Bacchus Marsh, the hub had
come at a good time.
Bacchus Marsh is the
highest growing area in
Victoria outside of the Melbourne metropolitan areas,
so the childrens hub is really important to look after
that growth, to put in place
these educational programs
and help out the mums
ands dads during that critical time in their childrens
lives.
Federal Labor Member for
Ballarat, Catherine King said
the turning of the sod was a
fantastic day for the whole
community.

THE final piece of funding

for a Darley Early Years Hub
has been secured by Moorabool Shire Council.
In the 2014/15 budget Moorabool Shire committed $2.75
million to the project, which
will provide 154 kindergarten places for four-year-olds,
80 kindergarten places for
three-year-olds, occasional
care, playgroups, maternal
and child health, family services and early childhood intervention services all under
the one roof.
Last Friday the Victorian
minister for children and
early
childhood
development, Wendy Lovell,
pledged the remaining $1.6
million needed to complete
the hub, which will be built
next to the Pentland Primary
School.

Its a pleasure to be here today to announce the Moorabool Shire Council have
been successful in receiving
a $1.6 million grant from the
State Government towards
a new integrated childrens
centre at the Darley Early
Years Hub, Ms Lovell said.
Early years are so vitally
important in setting up a
child for their education for
life. We know that 95 per
cent of a childs brain development happens in their
first five years of life before
they start school, so what
happens here in the kindergarten programs and the
early years services actually
sets them up on their pathway for learning for life.
Really importantly the
new hub will be co-located
with the Pentland Primary

School and thats a really

important outcome for the
families here in the Darley
Community because colocating services means that
they become a one-stopshop for families. It provides
for better transitions for the
children. By having those
facilities co-located the
children become extremely
comfortable
with
their
surroundings.
Moorabool Shire mayor
Paul Tatchell said children
were entering into a more
complex world and it was
imperative that Moorabool
prioritise the beginning
of a childs education and
nurture them all the way
through.
If we get it right at the very
beginning and invest in
that childs future through

the three-year-old and fouryear-old kinder programs,

its inevitable that if you start
in the right place youre a fair
chance of ending in the right
place, Cr Tatchell said.
I think that bringing up
children in a community is a
communitys responsibility
and Im absolutely ecstatic
that we are like-minded in
how we are prioritising our
childrens future, especially
in places like Moorabool.
While our challenges continually change, I think if we
can continue to stick to the
priorities, continue to work
together and work in partnership with the state government, there is absolutely
no doubt that the future of
Moorabool is in safe hands.

Court in action

By Steven Barnes (Work

Exp Monash Uni 3rd Yr)

A man who abused police

has been found guilty and
sentenced to a community
corrections order in the Bacchus Marsh Magistrates
Court last week.
Nevrus Dardovski, a Bacchus Marsh resident, pleaded guilty to abusing police
after they approached his
property following an earlier incident at the local IGA
supermarket.
The court heard when police arrived at Mr Dardovskis property the accused
became verbally abusive,
pushing an officer and
yelling expletives before
telling them to get off his
property.
Magistrate Steven Raleigh
was far from impressed by

the accuseds excuse that he

was only trying to shield his
son from trouble with the
police. He noted the seriousness of the offence and immediately waived away suggestions of a lighter penalty,
explaining bluntly Im not
giving out a fine.
Mr Dardovski was found
guilty and was sentenced to
a Community Corrections
order, as well as ordered to

participate in programs for

alcohol and drug issues.
The Magistrate did warn
Mr Dardovski, however,
that this conviction should
be treated as a suspended
sentence due to the gravity of the offence, and if the
accused was to commit another offence in the next 12
months he could find himself in jail.

Easter Saturday
By Jessica Howard
Colourful ribbons have
been tied to the fences of local Catholic schools to show
support for the victims and
survivors of clergy child
abuse.
Primary schools in Ballan, Gordon, Springbank,
Clarkes Hill and Dunnstown have taken part in the
LOUD fence campaign,
which was instigated in Ballarat and has now gained
traction throughout the
globe.
St Brigids Primary School
principal, Gabrielle Driscoll
said the Ballan school had
tied ribbons to their fence
as a way to recognise the
suffering and publicly show
support to victims, survivors and their families.
As part of the new school
year, the staff of St. Brigids
school, along with the staff
from all Catholic Schools in
the central zone of the Ballarat Diocese come together
to celebrate a liturgy to mark
the beginning of the new
school year. This year, at
the mass held at St. Patricks
Cathedral in Ballarat, each
school and college was presented with a candle and set
of ribbons, we were invited

to use the candle during

staff prayer and gatherings,
and to place ribbons on the
school fences in support of
those who were victims of
abuse, she said.
The LOUD fence campaign has been evident
throughout various Australian states, as well as in Rome
and England.
Michael Kennedy, principal of St Patricks Primary
School in Gordon, said the
ribbons were a simple way of
supporting the victims and
letting them know that the
school wanted to have their
stories heard.
We are supporting them
through this difficult time,
he said.
Other Moorabool Shire primary schools that have tied
ribbons to their fence include
St Michaels (Springbank), St.
Marys (Clarkes Hill) and St
Brendans (Dunnstown).
Bacchus Marsh St Bernards
Primary School principal,
Emilio Scalzo said whilst the
school was in full support of
the victims, they had chosen
not to take part in the campaign due to the age of their
students.
Given the children here
are 12-years-old or younger

we dont bring attention to

those sort of things, certainly our spirit is with those
involved, but we tend not to
cover those topics within
our school.
Moorabool Shire Deputy
Mayor Paul Tatchell said
whilst he wasnt against
the campaign, he had some
concerns.
I have concerns that people
that are not involved from a
media perspective or that
are reluctant to be in the
spotlight have to drive past
it all the time, its a constant
reminder for people that
may have adjusted or may
be okay with their lives and
driving past something like
that every day is a constant
reminder of something
theyre trying to forget, he
said.
I dont know if you can
have two sides, because I do
think that the communitys
support has been fantastic,
but I think its also important to recognise that not
everybody is comfortable
with it and Im not talking
about the Church Im talking
about the victims.

The results can improve patients quality of
life remarkably. Many patients report that
their excruciating pain has been alleviated
and mobility has returned.

Laser therapy is used to treat wounds, burns,

bruises, neck pain, osteoarthritis, side effects
of chemotherapy and radiotherapy, and many
other conditions. It has been known to work
effectively where other therapies have had
little effect.
While six to eight treatments are
recommended for most patients, chronic
conditions require more. Many patients
experience relief after the first consultation.
Most people suffering from soft tissue injury
or chronic pain would prefer to take fewer
medications, considering the potential side
effects. Who wouldnt?

Hair today; gone tomorrow

By Jessica Howard

BEFORE Hayley has her locks cut.

Hayley Inglis hair was so

long it brushed her elbows,
until this month.
The 23-year-old Bacchus
Marsh Grammar teacher
lost the locks as part of the
Worlds Greatest Shave and
raised over $9,000 in the
process.
Mrs Inglis, who also owns
and operates Bacchus Marsh
Dance Studio, said taking
part in the major fundraiser
was something she always
wanted to do.
Ive thought about it for
quite a long time and when
a close family friend was
diagnosed with Hodgkins
lymphoma last year she
started doing quite a lot to
raise money and awareness

for the Leukaemia Foundation, it was at that point that

I thought that this was something that I really wanted to
do.
I was feeling pretty confident up until it was actually
happening; the moment I felt
the clippers was when I really began feeling nervous.
Mrs Inglis staged the courageous hair cut infront of the
Bacchus Marsh Grammar
junior and senior school on
Friday, March 11.
Her husband, Brad, and
three of her close friends
were by her side for support.
They cut off my ponytail in
order to donate it to the Pantene Foundation, who make
wigs for cancer patients,
then my friend Claire actually shaved it all off for me,

she said.
It feels really weird now,
but Im trying to just embrace it.
With an initial fundraising
goal of $5,000, Mrs Inglis
had reached close to 70% of
her target shortly after registering for the campaign,
and in the end smashed it by
over $4,000.
Once I had decided to do
it I posted a Facebook status,
which lots and lots of people
shared, and from there it just
took off. I had about $3,000
in the first two days, it was
very humbling to have so
many people support me so
quickly.
The Worlds Greatest Shave
is the Leukaemia Foundations biggest fundraising
event.

Dear Editor,
Some members of the Ballan community have been
urging that a High School be
provided in Ballan.
Several decades ago, the
Victorian government acknowledged that it was not
really in the best interests,
of younger children particularly, to be bussed long distances to school.
With ever-increasing population and ever increasing
traffic, it should be of more
concern to have children on
the road today.
The trained Primary School
Teachers Certificate allowed
Primary school teachers to
teach children up to Year

Eight.
Rural schools and other
country Primary schools
became central schools up to
Year Eight, with small cost
for the addition of a couple
of extra classrooms and a
couple of extra teachers.
Some qualified Secondary
School teachers were also
appointed to smaller schools
and these schools became
Central Schools, catering for
children up to Year Ten.
Besides the obvious safety
reasons, it was also recognised that retaining children
in familiar, local communities, was also a healthier and
better proposition.
Now the politicians use the

WHATS ON

excuse that it is too expensive to provide a High school

in local areas.
Perhaps the Ballan Community may like to petition the
authorities to reintroduce
Central Classes.
It wouldnt cost anywhere
near the cost of a High
School and is obviously a
much better proposition
than unsafe and unhealthy
bussing!
I suppose there would be
some screams, from vested
interests, such as bus companies, so I suppose the community will have to scream
louder.
Cost didnt stop politicians voting in billions of

dollars for a desalination

plant, nor voting out and
losing billions of dollars on
shovel ready East West road
projects.
It really is a pathetic excuse
to claim that safer, higher
education would cost too
much!
Barry Riley
Ballan
Dear Editor,
As a concerned ratepayer I
believe we as a community
need to be informed as to
where our ever increasing
rates are being used and
suggest that we all take a
look at the budget distribu-

tion, available on the Moorabool shire website.

Here are a few examples:
1. $25 million in rates paid.
2. Almost $18 million paid
in wages for 206.6 employees;
this is an average of $87,378
total cost per employee.
3. Add to this wage bill 3.5%
per year up to 2019 and we
have a wages bill in excess of
19.5 million from rates revenue of 35.027 million dollars.
What this all means, in my
opinion, is that approx 50
cents from every dollar we
pay in rates goes to pay a
council administrator, not
a labourer with a shovel,
thats what we have contractors for, which by the way

are paid from that other 50

cents along with every other
service the council may provide, for example rubbish
collection.
Please seriously consider
making your voice heard before 23rd March.
Oh and good luck voting on the Have Your Say
site, I tried 3 times before I
was successful and when I
checked the vote count results they hadnt changed.
One last thing, did anyone
who works fulltime get to
the meetings during business hours?

Former Federal Minister for

Trade Ian MacFarlane took a
big swipe at the Parliament
last week in his out-going
valedictory speech, making
comment on the publics perception of Federal members;
in particular their behaviour
in the House.
MacFarlane has been out
of sorts since new PM Malcolm Turnbull demoted the
veteran pollie off the front
bench; things went from bad
to worse when he tried to
change teams and get preselection with the Nationals
without getting a Guernsey.
Ian MacFarlanes latest venture in search for a cure for
his attention deprivation is
to change codes, Guernseys
and allegiance, and sign on
with the State Labor Government in Queensland; he
used to be indecisive, but
now hes not sure!
The disgruntled Federal
Member took no prisoners
when he said, Is it any wonder when politicians regularly denigrate their political
opponents, and the media
are only too happy to join in,
that we now find ourselves
being referred to in the general populace as clowns and
this place as a circus?

The Moorabool News 22 March, 2016 Page 13

Perspective

with Paul Tatchell

Roll up, Roll up!

Putting MacFarlanes comments into Perspective is

like comparing the vocal talents of Placido Domingo and
Chad Morgan; circus performers are highly skilled
and entertaining, the Federal Parliament is like running
the Tour de France on exercise bikes; lots of pedaling
without getting anywhere.
The Canberra Big Top
was in fine form this week,
as the politicians code of
double standards was on
full display, as they bullied,
prodded and denigrated
each other with a petulance
that would make a grade six
debating team cringe.
A 28 hour marathon debate in the Senate on voting
reform saw the tax-paying
public shelling out several
hundred thousand dollars
in administration costs and
chauffeur driven cars, debating an argument that
had already been decided
well before the first rock was
thrown across the Senate
floor.
You know youre getting
value for money out of
the troglodytes when the
debate turns to Monty Python quotes on flatulence to
prosecute an argument on

democracy; Labor Senator

Doug Cameron showed the
benefits of a Grade six education when he attacked the
pro voting reformists with
the quote I fart in your general direction. Really!!!
Whilst I accept that Camerons intelligence is as
limited as his vocabulary,
and his aggressive style of
politicking is more aligned
to a schoolyard bully that
thinks dyslexia is an Italian
sports car, its quite plausible
the engagement of another
orifice to prosecute an argument may actually enhance
his debating skills!
Nick Xenophon took the
theatrics of the Senate to a
whole new level, when he
updated the dress rules of
the Senate by trading his
tailor made suit for a pair
of pyjamas; whilst it got his
picture in the paper, I doubt
it added any credibility to
the debate.
The real concern is when
all of this self-indulgent
,schoolyard scrapping takes
precedence over their real
task, governing the Country.
The Australian public deserve better for the billions
of dollars thrown at a Board
of Directors that seriously

need to stop looking in the

mirror and have a look out
the window.
Whilst there has always
been banter in the political
blood sport between the
red and the blue, there was
always an element of credibility to the debate, and it
was never as self-indulgent
as it is today. When you
consider the time spent arguing peripheral issues, the
real needs of this country
have boiled dry waiting for
someone brave enough to
stir; its like fighting about
which meatballs to put in
the spaghetti whilst Rome is
burning.
The tail seems to be wagging the dog, when the
Greens give bi-partisan support to their mortal enemy
the Libs, simply because its
a policy they both agree on.
Theres a novel idea; not saying no, just because you can!
Make no mistake the longest single bill Senate debate
in a quarter of a century on
voting reform has taken
precedence over a number
of real policy changes and
reforms, and its all about
them, not the people they
represent. The cynic in me
would suggest that delaying

the inevitable and shutting

up shop for their long winter
break was about avoiding a
double dissolution.
A
double-dissolution
would effectively sack the
lot of them and start again;
there is no doubt a doubledissolution would make a
bus load of Senators as nervous as Border Collies that
just swallowed a packet of
razor blades, and when you
consider the new voting
reforms, the one percenters
would be contemplating a
$200,000- plus pay deal versus minimum wages at the
McDonalds drive-through!
Would you like caviar with
your cheeseburger?
We have had enough instability in the Federal Government over the last 15 years to
keep the white coats in work
for the next century. The
parliamentary antics of the
lobotomised self-believers
make One Flew Over the
Cuckoos Nest look like a
documentary on Australian
politics in the 21st century!
The Senate is a house of
review and supposed to
be a powerful check on the
Government of the day, not
a trading floor for Party politics. The upper house is not

Environmental Opinion

working within its job description when it influences

lower house policy through
horse trading before its
reviewed.
The Roman roots of the
Senate were designed to
scrutinise and add a sense of
reason to lower house legislation, not follow the scrambled rantings of the mythical
Roman Senator Halfwiticus!
MacFarlanes Circus analogy of the parliament
couldnt be further from the
truth. Circus performers are
courageous, highly skilled
professionals that entertain,
whilst our Senate is a collection of self-serving manipulators that use parliamentary privilege over courage
to prosecute debate.
Leadership is about forward
vision and having the courage to make policy decisions
for the future, not the next
election. When representatives serve their Partys over
people it becomes a case of
policy over purpose. The
Australian public stopped
listening a long time ago, because the pollies did!
You cant build stability
within Government when
you are devoid of substance!

with Tom Kingston

The need is greed

I hope to continue my
writings on our War on
the Planet in the coming
weeks. Meanwhile our Federal Environment Minister
went on ABC radio recently
and claimed that Australias
carbon emissions peaked
a decade ago. Can you believe this? Politicians like
Mr Hunt have become very
adept at using accounting
tricks to cover up their climate policy failure. Australias emissions are still rising
(unlike Europe or the United
States, whose emissions
have genuinely peaked).
Were capturing some of that
rising pollution by planting
trees and so forth hence the
accounting trick but thats
not a solution in and of itself.
It certainly doesnt replace
reducing emissions in the
first place.
And the Earth is getting

dangerously hot. New data

released this week revealed
that global temperatures
surged in the last two
months to temperature targets that were not expected
to breach until 2100. Now, I
dont know about you, but,
that is really sobering (terrifying) news to me.
The latest independent
analysis shows Australias
greenhouse gas emissions
are rising, and will continue
to rise well beyond 2020 unless theres a dramatic turn
around. In fact, right now
our emissions growth rate
is projected to be one of
the worst in the developed
world.
Then there is the story from
Morwell, a town that is a victim of our insatiable need for
energy via fossil fuels. I will
let a woman from Morwell
speak in her own words.

My partner of 30 years, the

love of my life, and my very
best friend Craig (Harry) McCormack suffered an aneurism
on what I thought was a normal
Sunday morning, at 10.38am.
I performed CPR until the
ambulance and paramedics arrived. He fought for his life for
six days.
When the Hazelwood coal
mine caught fire, my home town
of Morwell was blanketed in
toxic smoke for 45 days.
The air was filthy and disgusting, the noxious smoke made us
gag and vomit; the headaches
and nose haemorrhages were
excruciating. The putrid fumes
got in our homes. The smell permeated our clothes, got through
our bedding. And they told us it
was safe.
After three days, there wasnt
a bird left. Smart birds, I wish
we followed them. If we did, my
husband wouldnt have died.

It was clear the birds couldnt

handle these poisonous particles, but we never considered
it could kill one of us within
months.
This week, the official Hazelwood inquiry handed down
what we knew all along. This
fire was deadly. The cloud of
toxic smoke that covered us has
ruined this town and devastated
our community. It has cost lives.
Since the fire our community
has been cursed with birth defects and miscarriages. People
are getting lung disease and respiratory illness. People are getting cancers. The fire has finally
stopped, but we are still burying
our friends and family.
And who will be brought to
justice for this crime? And
when will our federal government fund renewables
so that this never happens
again?
And finally this week I

would like to acknowledge

yet another of our environment heroes who has given
her life for our planet. A
leading human and environmental rights campaigner
Berta Cceres, 45 was murdered in her home in Honduras last week by gunmen.
Berta Cceres, who last year
won the prestigious Goldman Environmental Prize
for her work upholding the
land rights of indigenous
communities in Honduras,
had been regularly targeted
and threatened by groups
hostile to her campaigning.
She attracted international
recognition for supporting
Lenca communities whose
supplies of water, food and
medicines have been threatened by local dam projects.
It is highly probable that
her assassination is linked
with her work in protect-

ing the human rights of the

Lenca indigenous peoples to
their lands and territories,
the UNs representative for
indigenous people told the
BBC.
Cceres had been campaigning against one of
Central Americas biggest
hydropower projects: the
Agua Zarca multi-dam site
in the Gualcarque river basin. Her decade-long campaign delayed the project
and resulted in the withdrawal of Chinese company
Sinohyrdo as well as finance
from the World Bank.
And she died for the indigenous, the land and for us all.
What is your opinion?
Next MEG meeting: Thursday March 31st - 7.30pm Commercial Hotel, Ballan
All Welcome.

Spruce up the outdoors to sell

With solid capital growth being recorded for
larger homes across the state in December,
available space is proving increasingly attractive
to buyers.
This doesnt just mean more bedrooms, but also
outdoor areas, pools and gardens.

Enzo Raimondo
CEO, REIV

A well-presented garden is attractive to buyers

and can add significant value to your home, with
some agents estimating as much as 10-15 per cent
to the final sale price.
With this in mind, before you put your home on
the market its important to ensure your garden
or yard is looking its best. And remember, your
outdoor areas are an integral part of the overall
package so its worthwhile maximising all
available space.

A homes yard is also considered to be a good

indicator of the amount of effort given to the
property with dead plants, overgrown shrubs or
leaves, detracting from your homes key selling
points.
While its important not to overspend on
landscaping, small improvements such as new
soil, rocks and plants can help transform your
yard, making it appear fresh and inviting.
Making your home and outdoor areas - appear
well maintained and cared for will ensure you get
the best possible price for your property.
Simply edging your lawn can achieve great
results, giving the appearance of an easily
maintained yard. For those with limited outdoor
areas, be creative in how you present the space by

building upwards rather than outwards.

If possible, address your propertys shortfalls

such as busy roads by planting-out your gardens.
While the plants may not initially create a full
visual barrier, or any real sound improvement, the
perceived long-term improvement from a buyers
point of view will be worth it.
Lighting is another key consideration, as some
buyers will only have time to view your home
after dark. Night lighting can also add value to
your garden and assist in incorporating your
indoor and outdoor living areas.
Whatever the size of your garden, if its looking
its best, youll find buyers drawn to your home
and a sale made all the easier.

Fox control
Moorabool
Management Area
Parks Victorias conservation management
to restore and protect park habitat
includes the control of introduced
plant and animal species. As part of an
ongoing strategy, notice is hereby given
that Parks Victoria is laying buried baits
containing Sodium Monofluoroacetate
(1080 poison) on public land for the
control of foxes. Baits containing 1080
poison are being laid from Monday 21
March 2016 until Monday 18 April
2016.
Baits are laid at strategic sites and other
known areas of fox habitat within the
Brisbane Ranges National Park and
Steiglitz Historic Park.
1080 poison signs are posted throughout
the baited area and members of the
public who are living, visiting or working
in the above named areas are advised
to take particular care not to disturb or
interfere with bait stations. Domestic
dogs and cats are particularly susceptible
to 1080 poison and should be under
effective control, muzzled or kept away
from the baited areas.

From a hospital bed to a best and fairest victory Cameron Dunne has completed the ultimate comeback.
The 22-year-old, who was left with a
severe spinal injury following a freak
football accident in 2014, has taken
out the Ballarat Cricket Associations
Bernie Davey medal.
Cameron polled 14 votes throughout
the 2015/16 season to finish one ahead
of Buninyongs Joel Kitchen.

Whilst still feeling pain from the aftermath of his spinal injury, Cameron
said he was now undertaking his own
rehabilitation and was just happy to be
back on the pitch.
Getting out, playing sport and just
being active in different ways is just as
good for me as working in a gym doing
rehab, he said.
It was great to be playing with my
best mates and back around a team
environment.
A number of Camerons teammates
also took out awards at the BCA event,
including Jack McGregor who won the
wicket-keeping award with 22 dismissals and Zac Graham who received the
2nd XI Champion Player and the
award for the most catches throughout
the season.

I honestly had no idea on the night

that I would even come close to winning, the Ballan cricketer said.
I was only meant to fill in at the start
of the year, but once I started I couldnt
stop. I just wanted to be involved in a
team sport again and do what I could to
help the team get into the finals, which
we did.
Cameron accrued 434 runs throughout the revamped seconds competition,
alongside 22 wickets, six catches and
one run-out.
