2015 NEWSLETTER

Chapter Mission
Stephen F. Austin State
Universitys Public Relations
Student Society of
America Chapter
exists to promote
professionalism
among students. We
strive to offer all SFA
students the
opportunity to gain
knowledge and
experience in public
relations and other
professional career
fields. Our Chapter
stands for selfimprovement in a
friendly and
encouraging
environment.
Members have
access to national internship
and career services, as well
as invaluable networking
opportunities.
Chapter Trips
Our chapter takes at least
one professional trip each
semester. On Oct. 8, 2014
the officers made a trip PR
Day, an event held by the
PRSA Houston Chapter that
aimed at educating young
public relations professionals

in emerging and evolving

industry trends. The group
sat among hundreds of

people with different

backgrounds in PR and
gained valuable insight to
how the business world uses
PR.
The chapter is currently
planning a May 2015 trip to
Pierpont Communications, a
large public relations firm in
Houston, Texas. The trip
would include an all-day tour
of the firm and a discussion
of how different situations
are handled. It will be a truly

for all attending members.
National Conference
The 2015 National
PRSSA Conference will
be held Nov. 6 10 in
Atlanta Georgia. SFASU
PRSSA is excited about
attending this event
because we did not
have the opportunity
to attend the 2014
Conference.
Conference events will
include workshops as
well as a full
experience of the
social side of Atlanta.
Attendees will gain
incredible insight to
Atlanta PR and leave with an
extensive new network of PR
professionals.

Workshops
We hold professional
workshops at nearly every
meeting. We offer resume
workshops and critiques,
mock interviews, speaking
opportunities, skill enhancing
projects, professional guest
speakers, internship and

Officers
The officer positions are
filled at the beginning of
each calendar year, or as
needed. Responsibilities are
spread among the positions,
but the Executives work
together on all projects to
build and maintain a strong
leadership. There are
currently only four officers in
the SFASU Chapter due to

Benefits of Public Relations

By: Jenna (Gruhala)
Oltersdorf
Most of our team
understands that public
relations and advertising are
similar when it comes to
reaching the same goal. But
the strategies used in PR are
not only more economical
but also more practical than
your general controlled
message advertisement.
Unfortunately PR tends to
be overlooked in the
planning stages of some
marketing campaigns
because many dont fully
understand the benefits.
Knowing how to properly
launch a PR campaign
whether for a person,
organization, product or

positions will soon be filled

with the influx of new
members.
