Ejemplos sencillos
(1) Where is the cat? (Dnde est el gato?)
- Where: palabra wh- (dnde)
- is: verbo (est)
- the cat: resto de la pregunta, en este caso el objeto directo (el gato)
(2) When do we play? (Cundo jugamos?)
- When: wh- (cundo)
- do: verbo auxiliar
- we play: resto de la pregunta, en este caso el pronombre we(nosotros) y el
verbo principal play (jugar).
En (1) y (2) observamos una palabra con wh- seguida por un verbo. La frase (1)
tiene un solo verbo, necesariamente el verbo principal. La frase (2) tiene 2
verbos, el verbo auxiliar do y el verbo principal play. Lee ms sobre verbos

Where quiere decir "dnde", de modo que con where formularemos preguntas de lugar.

Where is Mexico? (Dnde est Mxico?)

- Mexico is in North America. (Mxico est en Norte Amrica)
Where do you want to go? (A dnde quieres ir -t-?)
- I want to go shopping. (-Yo- quiero ir de compras)
Where is the bathroom? (Dnde est el bao?)
- It's next to the bedroom. (Est al lado de la habitacin)
Clase 4
When quiere decir "cundo", de modo que con when formularemos preguntas de tiempo. Te
interesar ste artculos si te preguntas cundo se debe acentuar "cundo"

When is the party? (Cundo es la fiesta?)

- The party is on September 7. (La fiesta es el 7 de septiembre)

 When can I see you? (Cundo puedo verte?)

- In a week. (en una semana)

Who quiere decir "quin", de modo que con who formularemos preguntas para conocer la
identidad de una persona.
Ejemplos de preguntas y respuestas que empiezan con who

Who is the president of the United States? (Qun es el presidente de

Estados Unidos?)
- The president is Barack Obama. (El presidente es Barack Obama)
Who are you calling? (A quin ests llamando?). Presente simple o -ing?
- I'm calling Michael. (Estoy llamando a Michael)
Who was he talking to? (Con quin estaba hablando?)
- With my sister. (Con mi hermana)

Clase 5
What quiere decir "qu". Con what podemos formular preguntas como Qu
hora es?, Qu quieres comer?, etc.

Ejemplos de preguntas y respuestas que empiezan con what

What do you want to eat? (Qu quieres comer?)

- I want some pizza. (Quiero algo de pizza)

What is this? (Qu es esto?)

- It's a clock. (Es un reloj)

What is your name? (Cmo te llamas?)*

- My name is Gisela. (Me llamo Gisela)
*La traduccin literal, palabra por palabra, sera "qu es tu nombre", pero en
espaol esa expresin no tiene ningn sentido.

Clase 6
Why quiere decir "por qu". Con why nos preguntaremos sobre la finalidad, la
causa o el motivo por el que ocurren las cosas.
Ejemplos de preguntas y respuestas que empiezan con why

Why are you leaving? (Por qu te vas?)

- Because I want to. (Porque quiero)

 Why is the sky blue? (Porqu el cielo es azul?)

- I don't know. (No lo s)

Why are you so quiet? (Por qu ests tan callado?)

- Because I like to enjoy the silence. (Porque me gusta disfrutar del silencio)
Como hemos visto en los ejemplos, because, significa "porque" y sirve para
introducir nuestras respuestas a las preguntas que empiezan con why.
