LEI 4724
Activity: Charades
Source: Sheldon D. Rose (Group Therapy with Troubled Youth: A Cognitive-Behavioral
Interactive Approach, P. 353)
Equipment needed: None, props are encouraged
Activity Description:
1. Introduce yourself as the leader of the activity. Hello my name is __ and today were
playing charades.
2. Give the rules to the game (no talking when acting, time limit)
3. Break up into teams (upon leader's discretion)
4. Give out different subjects to act out. (animals, movies, superheroes, cartoons)
Leadership Considerations:
1. When working with children with learning disabilities charades can be a fun way lean.
For example, you can use choose the theme of the subject to be former presidents and
have them act. Its easier to recall things when you learn them in a fun atmosphere
rather than school.
2. For those that are paraplegic and have loss of either limps, you can play emotion
charades where one would either draw or find a picture with an expression of how
theyre feeling while other have to guess.
3. To avoid repetition keep a list of the different subjects chosen and if one repeats it they
are penalized by having to sing the itsy bitsy spider.
4.
Charades can be good for those with social anxiety by having them engage in
something they arent accustomed and/or working in groups is better way for
participants to interact and participate.
