Mechanical Calibration Tasks

Indexing the Exact Arms


ThisprocedureindexesthemechanicalaxesoftheExactArmsforthe
kVsourceandthekVandMVdetectors.Thethreearmjointsuse
encodersthatdonothaveabsolutepositions.Iftheencodercountis
lostduetoapowerfailurewhilethearmismovingordeliberately
deletedbythecontrolsystemifamismatchbetweenPROandSPROis
detectedthenthearmencodersmustbereindexed.Thecalibration
processidentifiestheabsoluteangularreferenceposition(theindex
pulse)oftheshoulder,elbow,wristandhandlateralpositions.Ifit
fails,theaxiscannotidentifyitsposition.Formoreinformation,refer
totheExactArmReferenceGuide.
Animportanthardwaredeviceforcalibratingisthehandpendant.For
informationonhowtousethehandpendant,refertotheOnBoard
ImagerReferenceGuide.
WARNING: If any of the mechanical axes is not calibrated, no clinical
movements are allowed. If the mechanical calibration is incorrect, there is a risk
of irradiating the wrong area with the kV or MV beam.
The authorized person who carries out the calibration is responsible for the
correct calibration.

Tocalibratethemechanicalaxes:
1.

Dependingonthearmtobecalibrated,rotatethegantrytooneof
thefollowingpositions:

ForthekVdetector:90degrees(allscales)

ForthekVsource:270degrees(allscales)

FortheMVdetector:0degrees(IEC61217andVarianIEC
scales)or180(Varianscale)

c. Forearmwristhand:180forthekV source
d. Forearmwristhand:270forthekVdetector/MV detector

Theaxismovesuntilthezeroimpulseindexisfound.On
successfulcalibration,themessageCalibration succeeded
appears.Ifthecalibrationmessagedoesnotappear/fails,repeat
step 6.andstep 7.
12. Repeatstep 11.usingtheLNG(longitudinal)thumbwheelandthe

LAT(lateral)thumbwheelfortheremainingaxes.

13. WhencalibratingthekVdetector,repeatstep 11.usingtheANG

thumbwheel.
Note: Withoutuserinteractions,handpendantmenusautomaticallytimeout

afterafewseconds.
