Review SWIS Data

On March 4 and March 11th, I was given access to our SWIS (School Wide Information
System) data from my elementary principal.
During these occasions, I identified the special education students on my adapted
physical education case load and reviewed their referrals vs. the non-special education
population. On both occasions I lost myself looking at all of the information. I could
search students, sort them my ethnicity, types of violations, where violations occur, when
they occur, etc.
I did not find any irregularities. I followed this research up with a conversation with my
principal regarding perceptions of discipline are and how statistics can be used to
reinforce to help when talking with parents, teachers, school board, etc.
