Observation:

Standard(s): Identify what you want to teach. Reference State, Common Core (if
applicable), ACT College Readiness Standards and/or State Competencies.
Shape America Standard 1: Motor skills and movement patterns: balance.

Big Idea(s)/Essential Question(s): What question(s), big idea(s), and/or goals drive your
instruction?

To allow children to work together to collect as many bean bags as possible.

Academic Language Crab walk: getting into a crab position and walking with most
of the weight in your arms
ConceptsTeaching the children to crab walk and how to work together to get as
many bean bags as possible
SkillsCrab walk and working as a team
ApplicationsThe children will crab walk as fast as possible to the ocean to grab a
bean bag and they put it on their belly. Then they crab walk as fast as possible
without dropping the bean bag and place it into the teams hoop.
Lesson Objective(s): Clear, specific, and measurable.
I can use my upper body strength to its full potential. I can practice different levels of
speed and endurance.
Assessment/Evaluation: Formative: Student demonstration of current lesson

objective(s).
Summative: What evidence will you collect and how will it document student learning and
mastery of the lessons objective(s)? Formal/Informal: Statements made as to what type of
assessment you will use to gather student data.

I will use observation to make sure each child can crab walk properly for the formative
assessment.
The winning team will prove to have the highest levels of endurance and speed.
Instructional Strategies/Activities:
1. The children will pick a colored piece of paper from a bag (the
colors will represent the colors of the hula hoops) There will be a
red team, blue team, green team, and yellow team.
2. The students will stand behind each of their hoops and the first

person will get into the crab walk position on the floor.
The student that is crab walking first will crab walk to the middle
of the ocean (the gym floor) where all of the bean bags are spread
out.
Each student will grab a bean bag, place it on their belly, and crab
walk back to the group and toss the bag into the hoop.
The next person will proceed to the front of the line and start the
process all over again.
The team with the most bean bags in their hoop is the winning
team.

provide an explanation of when students will receive feedback on the assessment. Assign a
written task (if applicable) for student reflection.

Ask each student to demonstrate the crab walk activity again. Ask them to recite
the objectives to ensure that they understand why we did this activity.
TEACHER REFLECTION/FUTURE MODIFICATIONS

Reflection on the Lesson Plan and Delivery to include: To what extent did the students learn
the concepts? What will be your next instructional steps? What did you learn about
yourself and your students concerning this lesson?
