3Alcohol:opinionsvaryonthedegreetowhichalcoholcausesgout.Oneclearfactisthatbeer
andstoutcontainlargequantitiesofpurines,andcouldcertainlyprecipitateagoutattack.
Duringanattackyoushouldthereforeavoidallalcohol.Beyondthat,1or2fiveounceservings
ofalcoholperdayintheformofaglassortwoofwineisgenerallyregardedasacceptable.
4Carbohydrates:fructoseisknowntoincreaseuricacid,anditisunfortunatelyacommon
sweetenerinmanymodernprocessedfoods.Suchfoodsshouldbeavoided,butfoodstoavoid
withgoutincludeanyprocessedfoodwhichcontainshighlevelsofsyruporsugarsweetener.
Naturallyenough,thiswouldincludefruitjuiceandsoftdrinks.Ifyoumusttakeliquidinthese
forms,usepurefruitjuice,possiblydiluted5050withwater.
5Complexcarbohydratesareamuchbetteroptionthansimplesugarsbecausethebodydigests
themslowlyandthatwillreduceappetiteoveralongerperiodalso,complexcarbohydrateswill
assistinweightlossandovercomeinsulinresistanceissues.Ingeneral,fruitandvegetablesare
tobepreferredoverrefinedfoodssuchaswhiteflourproducts,bread,cakes,cookiesandsweets
orcandies.
