Introduction
It is important to understand that in this definition, the maximum design load applied to
the structure is not necessarily the maximum load that the structure can carry. In order to provide
an efficient design, the structural engineer must design the structure to carry the loads that are
anticipated to occur, called the design load. So efficiency is based on maximum design load, not
on the actual load that the structure can carry, which may be much higher than the design load.
Of course, often the most efficient structure will be one that has a maximum capacity equal to the
maximum design load.
Results:
1st) Brian/Marion (288.5)
2nd) Miriam/Kurtis (116.86)
3rd) Teagan/Jordan (79.17)
4th) Daniel/Martin (65.8)
5th) Ommavuare/Josh (22.98)
6th) Ted/Josh V. ( 0.0097)
+ Max Capacity= 4229
+ Weight = 36.5
+ Structural Efficiency Rating = 115.86
+ Structural Analysis: Structure ultimately collapsed as a result of a failure at the base of the
structure. One corner collapsed inward from the weight which was being applied to the top. With
increased strength in the base layer of our structure I am confident that it would have been able
to hold at least 50% more of what it managed to hold initially.
