I can conjugate preterite stem changing verbs.
I can write basic information in Spanish in the past tense.
I can understand messages written in the past tense.
Assessment (Formative, Summative): thumbs up/down, exit ticket, quiz, chapter test, etc.
Formative Assessment- Kahoot gives an instant formative assessment after every
question.
Introduction/Hook: (Warm-up, review of previous days lesson, check for understanding of previous
knowledge)

Warm-up review of past tense stem changers.


Steps in the lesson: (Include ideas for whole-class instructions, if any; differentiated activities;
sharing, etc.)

1. Review of preterite stem changers


Have students turn and talk to a neighbor about what they learned yesterday. Model an
example for students on the board. Have students tell you what verb endings should be
and in which forms verbs change spelling. Refer to the flip flops they made the day
before.
2. Warm-up and check answers
Conjugate the verb in parenthesis to past tense. Hint: All verbs are stem changers. There
are going to be a few words the students are not familiar with. Example: Soldados
3. Guided Practice- the timed game Escritura Rpida (play a few rounds then go
over answers)
Team A (right side of room) has 20 strips of stem changing verbs with a subject pronoun
and a verb. Team B (left side of room) has 20 strips of stem changing verbs with a subject
pronoun and a verb. Each student starts with one strip of paper. On a sheet of notebook
paper, they write down the number and the conjugation. They need to conjugate quickly
because they are competing against the other half of the room. Before, beginning the
game tell them exactly where to pass the paper and number their paper 1-20. Put answer
key under the document camera and have students switch papers with someone sitting
next to them.
4. Independent Practice- Kahoot

Instruct students to get computers and log onto Kahoot.it Reminder: School appropriate
names
5. Worksheet (if time permits)
Direcciones: En el restaurante La Hermosa trabaja un mesero muy distrado que siempre

6. Exit ticket (if time permits)
Get a scrap piece of paper and pick 2 stem changer verbs to conjugate
Closure Activity/Wrap up: This may be in the form of independent practice, a chance to share, or
explicit restatement of the goals of the lesson.
