UNIVERSAL JOINT
UNIVERSAL
JOINT

The power produced by the engine is

to be conveyed to the wheels for the
vehicle to run.
Universal joint & propeller shaft are
the two important members who
transfer the power developed in the
engine to the wheels.
The sole purpose of universal joint is
to transmit the power even at varied
angles of the transmission system.

UNIVERSAL JOINT
UNIVERSAL
JOINT

Power is transmitted from the gear

box to the differential through
propeller shaft.
The gear box is connected to one
end of the propeller shaft by means
of the universal coupling.
The differential is connected to the
other end of the propeller shaft by
means of another universal coupling.

When the differential rises or falls,

the distance between the gearbox
and
the
differential
changes,
correspondingly the effective length
of the propeller shaft and matching
internal splines on the universal
joint.
