Students are working on their

biographies for their Living
Museum Presentations. The
biographies consist of pages
for: their notable persons
introduction, early life, adult
life, characteristics, and
conclusion.

Students are working

independently throughout the
room. Some students are at
their desks, others are at the
back tables, and some are
lying on the carpet.

Students are in all different

stages of the writing process.
The teacher did not give
specific deadlines for the class
to meet so it is up to the
students to ensure every thing
get completed. Some students
were finishing up their final
drafts and drawing the cover
page and others were in the
editing process of their pages.
During this time Mrs. Frederich
is working on getting ready for
the Living Museum
presentations coming up and
also answering students
questions and conferencing
with students if asked.

I found it so interesting what

notable persons in history the
class chose. Some of the
students got very creative with
who they wanted to research.
In the class we had Clara
Barton founder of the
American Red Cross,
primatologist Jane Goodall, J.K.
Rowling, Pleasant Rowland
founder of American Girl Dolls,
Orville Wright, Michael Jordan,
Gandhi, and many more.

I wish I were able to be there

when they were in the
brainstorming process of
finding their person to portray
and research.

This project connects writing to

social studies and language
arts. Before they began the
project, the students had a
literacy unit on biographies.

Describe: What did I observe?

- I observed students preparing for their Living Museum. Students
were in all different stages of the writing process and spread out
across the room wherever they felt most comfortable. We talked a
lot about space and time in lecture and how important it is to
make students feel comfortable so that may reflect in their
writing.
Analyze: What do I think (opinions, thoughts, comments, questions)
about what Ive observed?
- I loved the whole idea about the Living Museum and really want
to do that with my classroom in the future. I also liked how the
teacher let the students choose where they wanted to work during
this time. Students were able to move away from their desks or
anyone who may be distracting.
Appraise: How did this observation influence me as a future teacher?
- As stated above, I really hope I get to create a living museum
with my future students. It is a great way to teach biographies and
nonfiction and also self guided learning through history and
literacy.
