Re: Beth Cook

To Whom It May Concern:

Elizabeth (Beth) Cook is in the process of completing her year of internship as a
sixth grade teacher at Woodrow Wilson Elementary in Granite School District. This
internship is in lieu of the more common student teaching practicum. This
represents her culminating experience in the Teacher Preparation program at the
Urban Institute for Teacher Education (UITE) at the University of Utah. She is part
of the first group of nine students engaged in this internship during the 2015/16
academic year.
In this program, the interns are full time teachers. They are supported by a site
based mentor and by supervisors from the University. In all other respects, their
duties are the same as any first year teacher in their district. They are fully
responsible for every aspect of teaching.
Beth has done an exemplary job. The classroom climate in Beths room is safe and
supportive of learning. She has demonstrated a clear grasp of the implementation
of Big 8 management strategies. The students understand and respect her
expectations regarding behavior. Beth is always eager to listen to suggestions
about how to better meet the needs of every student. This year she has had
students with special challenges. I have enjoyed working with her and watching her
try different strategies to help them become successful.
Beth has thoughtfully prepared lessons that engage her students. She understands
how to maintain this engagement through interesting material and a variety of
opportunities for participation.
Beth has an exceptional ability to bring reading to life in the small group setting. It
is a pleasure to observe the excitement and involvement of her students. She has
clearly brought a love of reading to her students.
It has been a pleasure working with Beth this year. As a teacher, she is
conscientious, responsible, and professional. I know that she is a valuable asset as
a teacher, team member and coworker. I highly recommend her for a teaching
position.
Sincerely yours,

Kittie Linehan
