The Risa Ranch near Opheim
was blessed with a rare set
of triplets Wednesday night
as their calving season is
just getting started. And
we say blessed as Bryce
Risa, who sent us the photo,
explained that he had just
lost a calf and the momma
cow of the dead calf adopted
one of the triplets, which are
around 50-60 pounds each:
two bull calves and one
heifer calf. Whats udderly
amazing is that calf triplets
being born is quite a rare
event. While the likelihood
of beef cattle having twins is
somewhere between 1 and
7%, the chances of triple
births in beef cattle are just
one in 105,000, according to
Charles T. Estill, associate
professor of rural veterinary
practice at the Oregon
State University Veterinary
School. To put that into
perspective, the chances
of finding a four-leaf clover
on the first try are about 1 in
10,000. Bryce had maybe
get to the Mint Bar and get
himself a lottery ticket.

As March Madness spills into
April, its going to be an exciting
Final 4.
After first round wins in the
NCAA Mens Sweet Sixteen, three
of #1 seeds made an early exit.
Only #1 North Carolina made it to
the Final Four.
#1 and overall top seed
Kansas... gone. #1 Oregon... gone.
And #1 Virginia... gone.
In the Glasgow Distributors/
Hi-Line Ford Sweet Sixteen
bracket, that wiped out a whole
lotta folks vying for some nice
prizes, particularly those who
picked Kansas because there was
an overwhelming pile of them
(about 80%) who went with the
Jayhawks. Oregon cost quite a few
bracketeers, as did Virginia.
But there is another short
pile of them here that have the
Tar Heels picked to run the table.
They are: Sarah Law, Julie Page,
Kevin Taylor, Ken Jansa, Arlie
McMichael, Don Rath, Wade
Brockmier (aSchool
huge sports fan,
March Madness
was one of his
League
favorite times of the year), Buckets,
Arleen Archambeault, Mandy Lin,
Johnny Lin, Fanny Lin, Kevin
Schindler, and Kent Schindler.
If Villanova should pull it
off, Jim Koessl and Kirsten Bense
could be looking at a tie-breaker.
Wayne Linder and Tara
Strommen saw something in
Oklahoma.
No one in the Glasgow
Distriburs/Hi-Line Ford contest
picked 10th seeded Syracuse to
win it all.
But well see how it plays out
should the men in Orange win
it all, its going to be a disaster to go
through all these brackets to find
our eventual winners!
