the lesson plan that you implemented at your clinical school during the
IMB clinical weeks.
Also, make sure that you have completed the Reflection part of the lesson
plan template (at the very end) where it asks you to: Write several
paragraphs about what you learned from this lesson. What were the
strengths? What were the weaknesses? What did you learn about teaching

Description of Activities and Setting

To get the students attention we will begin discussing the field trip
we took to the Mint Hill Historical Society earlier in the week. I will
ask questions such as What were some things you noticed that
were different from how we live now? As students share we will talk
about how our opinions and lives are very different from the people
who lived during that time.
Students will be able to compare and contrast their perspective on
events in history with other perspectives in the form of a letter.
Today we are going to view a BrainPop about the American
Revolution, and hear some information about the Stamp Act. The
colonists were not happy with this law and many of them did not
obey it. Afterwards we are going to travel back in time and
experience what it was like to live with the Stamp Act.

This is where I will explain the Kings M&Ms game. Each student wil
have 10 M&Ms o their desk. One student will be chosen to be the
King (whoever has a birthday closest to today will get to be the
King) and the King will choose a Tax Collector to help them out. The
King will come sit at the front of the classroom in their throne, and
will be given the tax cards. (included at the end of lesson) The King
will get to choose whichever cards they want to make a law, and as

The letter that students write will be used to assess them. They will be
graded on whether or not they expressed their own opinion, and use of
proper punctuation and vocabulary.
For closure students will complete an exit ticket. On a sticky note
they will write one thing they learned about the Stamp Act, or how
they felt about having to give up their M&Ms.

Reflection on lesson: (Write several paragraphs about what you learned from this lesson. What
were the strengths? What were the weaknesses? What did you learn about teaching and student
learning? How would you teach this lesson differently in the future?

My lesson went really well. The day before I taught my lesson we took a field trip to the Mint Hill
Historical Society, so I was able to relate my lesson directly to this. All throughout the week we
had been learning about colonial times so I was able to use the game The Kings M&Ms with my
students and relate it to the Stamp Act. Once the students realized we were going to be using
M&Ms they became very excited. We had so much fun playing the game and everyone was
engaged. After the game my students wrote letters to the King of England to express their
opinions. Some weaknesses in my lesson were keeping the students quiet during the explanation
and getting them to work well with the M&Ms. I learned a lot about classroom management
during my lesson. I had so much fun during IMB and I am going to miss my students so much!
They taught me a lot about what it means to be a teacher, and that it is often more than just
teaching. Being a teacher is about being a confidante, and a friend when a student needs one.
