Teacher Activity

Preliminary Activities

Greetings
Good Morning Class!
Prayer
Please all stand for the opening
prayer. Mr.________ please led the prayer.

Student Activity

Classroom management

Good Morning sir.

(student) In the name of the Father, the

Son and the Holy Spirit, Amen.
(Students will pray)

Yes, Sir!

Class before you seat down, please

pick up the pieces of dirt under your chair
and arrange your seats properly.

(students will pick up pieces of dirt and

arrange their seats properly)
(Secretary) None sir!

Checking of attendance
Ms. Secretary, do we have
absentees?
Thats good.

Checking of assignments

Did I give you an assignment last

meeting?
OK, since none lets recapitulate of what
we discussed last meeting

(students) none, Sir!

Recall of past lesson

Who can recall of what we have
discussed last meeting?

(student)Last meeting we discussed all

about the introduction of matter and
properties of matter
(student) sir, matter is defined as
anything that takes up space and has
mass.

(Student) the examples of matter are

chalk, rooms, bike and anything that we
observe through our senses
Again, what is matter? Without
looking on your notes
Ok, very good

What are the examples of matter?

(student) sir, when we say mass it

must something to do about the
absolute measurement of certain
objects while weight is the respect to
the gravitational pull of the earth.

Yes, sir

How can you differentiate mass

from weight?
(ok, sir)

(The students will write answers)

Thank you for that wonderful retention,
I am hoping that you will never forget
that.
Engage
Motivation
Okay, I will group you into 3 then
each group must have leader,
presenter and one writer for

(Student 1) The states of matter that

are involved in our activity are the solid,
liquid and gas
(Student 2) it becomes solid becomes
sir, it consists of compacted molecules
that make it hard and compressed so
that as we observe it has different size

answers.
Each group will be given concept
cards. Afterwards, the group will
arrange the cards like a web to
create linkages and show the
relationship of each concept cards.
Each group are only given 3 minutes
for preparation and 2 minutes for
presentation. After you present your
work I will throw some questions
with regards about our activity.
Here are the questions.
From the activity that we have done
what are the states of matter
involved?

What makes solid phase become

solid?

What makes liquid different from

gas?

and shape.
(Student 3) liquid different from gas
because liquid has the properties like for
instance it has definite volume but no
definite shape and it move through
vibrations while gas has no definite
volume and shape, and it moves freely.
Because, when ice is being exposed to
the sunlight the tendency is to melt so
that it turns into liquid form.

(student) Yes, sir

(Student will read)

At the end of the discussion, the
students are expected to:
1.State the processes in phase changes
2. Describe the process involve in each
changes
3. Differentiate the processes during
Why you think that ice becomes in
liquid phase when you expose to the phase changes
4.Perform simple activities which has
sunlight?
relevance to the concepts of phase
changes
Ok class very well said answers, do you
5.Give examples of phase changes that
have any idea we our topic for today?
occur in our daily activity.

Presentation of new lesson

That activity has connection with our

new topic which is Phase change?

Presentation of Objectives

But, before we discuss our topic, lets

have first our learning objectives:
Who can read?

(The student will read)

Phase changes
It is a change from one state of
matter (solid, liquid, gas) to
another.
Vaporization
Changing liquid into gas.
Evaporation and boiling and
adding energy.
Condensation

Changing gas into liquid.

Removing energy
Sublimation
Changing solid directly into gas
without becoming liquid.
Adding energy
Deposition
Changing gas directly into solid.
Removing energy

Ok, thank you these objectives will

be our goal for this day and we need
to achieve and attain it profoundly
through you full cooperation and
collaboration.

Melting
Changing solid into liquid.
Adding energy
Freezing
Changing liquid into solid.
Removing energy

Unlocking of difficulties

(kindly read the following

terminologies)

(student will read)

Procedure:
Place a little rubbing alcohol onto a
piece of cotton, and then swab the back
of your hand.
Describe your observations. (Does your
hand stay moist for very long?)
Guide questions:

Ok thank you, those terms will be used in

our discussion for us to understand more
about the topic.
EXPLORE
To start with our topic, we will be

1) What happen to the alcohol when

you rub the cotton with alcohol to
your hand?
2) What did you feel when you rub
the cotton with alcohol to your
hand?
3) Why did the back of your hand get
cool?
4) Describe how this system of
alcohol on the warm hand.
5) Why do you think that the alcohol
easily evaporate compare to the

having first an activity.

This time I will group you into two
groups, the group 1 will occupy the left
side portion of the room while the group 2
will occupy the right portion of the room,
each group must have a leader and
presenter.
Ok, group leader kindly approach me for
the materials
For the group 1 I will give you an
activity which entitled rub me like you
do
Ok, kindly read the procedure and
guide questions

water?
Then, draw a conclusion
(Student will read)
Procedure:
1. Light the end of a mosquito coil
with a match. Blow it out.
2. Lift up the plastic bottle and
place the end of the smoking
mosquito coil into the neck of
the plastic bottle. Allow the
smoke to go into the plastic
bottle.
3. Place the plastic bottle upside
down in the glass with hot
water.
4. Place ice covered by piece of
cloth on top of the plastic
bottle.
5. Observe what will happen
after 5 minutes.
Guide questions:
1. What is the purpose of hot
water? Explain.
2. What happens when the water
vapor reaches the ice? Explain
why.
3. . What did the water vapor
condense onto? (There may have
been 2 places if you saw
raindrops)
4. What processes involved in the
activity? Why?
Then draw your conclusion

How about the group 2 kindly read the

procedures and guide questions?

(The students will do the activity)

(Student)We learned about some

process in phase change
(Student)The process involved are
evaporation, sublimation, condensation,

deposition, melting and freezing

Yes, sir

I will give you ten (10) minutes to do and

answer the activity
Each group will present their works in
front of the class.
For you to be guided with your
presentation or performance, I have here
rubrics for the basis of your points. Heres
the rubrics

The time starts now

(After 10 minutes) time is up class! Kindly
fix your work on the board
Explain
From the activity,
What did you learn?

Phase changes
It is a change from one state of
matter (solid, liquid, gas) to
another.
Vaporization
Changing liquid into gas.
Evaporation and boiling and
adding energy.
Condensation
Changing gas into liquid.
Removing energy
Sublimation
Changing solid directly into gas
without becoming liquid.
Adding energy
Deposition
Changing gas directly into solid.
Removing energy
Melting
Changing solid into liquid.
Adding energy
Freezing
Changing liquid into solid.
Removing energy
Endothermic
A change that is caused by
absorbing energy from its
surrounding.
Exothermic
A change is caused by releasing
energy to the surroundings.

What are the processes involved in the

phase change?
Are you sure?
Ok, so we will find out your answer as we
go on our topic.
What is phase change? Who can read the
following?

(student)The butter became in liquid

form when heated because the heat
affects the butter thats why it turns to
liquid.
(Students) the corn starch became solid
when it has water and when it was
being molded because it has the
properties to become hard.

(The student will copy the assignment)

(The teacher will explain each process of

phase change)
By the way, we have to classification of
phase change, we have:
Endothermic which involved the
processes Melting, vaporizing, subliming
and Exothermic which also involved the
process freezing, condensing, depositing
Elaborate
We will have another video presentation
for better understanding after that I will
ask you some questions and you will
answer it
Is it okay class?
Butter
What happen to the butter when it was
heated? Why?
Corn starch
What is the reason why the corn starch
became solid when it has water and when
it was being molded?
Evaluation
Okay, class. That was a great
discussion. I am assured that you now
know and understand the phase changes.
It is now time for a short quiz. Get piece
sheet of paper.
1.6.

State the process of phase

changes.
7- 10. Differentiate the following
(a. sublimation and deposition),
(b. evaporation and condensation),
(c. freezing and melting)
11-15. Give at least 5 examples of
phase changes that occur in our daily
activity

Enrichment
Please has an advance reading about our
next activity and kindly bring those
materials needed
