Additional comments on Planning For Student Learning


In this class for students who struggle with mathematics, Ms. Steccato provided three different
activities for students to review and cement their knowledge of the rules of exponents. Through the
activities, the students worked independently as well as in groups which involved the students
working with each other to explain their thinking. The activities were well thought through and
effective.
Additional comments on Teaching For Student Learning
Ms. Steccato consistently uses mathematical language and requires that students do the same. She

is clear in her explanations and presents concepts in understandable ways.

Ms. Steccato checks for understanding throughout the class. She is encouraged to have students
explain their thinking more often.

Ms. Steccato has developed a very positive rapport with her students which is reflected in their
attention and focus during class.

Ms. Steccato is a professional in every way. Her working relationship with her mentor is productive
and respectful. While Ms. Steccato reflects on her own efforts, she also provides opportunities for
her students to provide her with feedback as well. She incorporates that feedback into her planning
and delivery.

Overall Comments
Ms. Steccato conducts her class as though she has been teaching for several years. She is clear,
consistent, caring and clearly focused on students learning the mathematics. She will be an asset to
any school where she works.
