I Can Repent:

Sharing Time idea for 2nd week of May

By: Sheena Perron of Little LDS Ideas

You will be taking the children on the path of repentance by visiting four separate areas in the Primary
room or other rooms. When you arrive at each area, discuss one of the steps: Admit, Be Sorry,
Confess, & Don’t do it again!

What you will need for this Sharing Time:

4th Article of Faith Sign-Click here to view/print
A helper- to act out your story (you could also do this instead of asking someone)
ABC’s of Repentance sign (attached below. Cut each step out, so that it’s a strip of paper).
Big spots- make with construction paper, use a dark color. (optional)
4 areas/rooms for each step of Repentance and helpers for each room/station
You could have a Repentance path that you can follow to each room/station

Before Sharing Time:

-Print out the 4th Article of Faith sign
-Print out the ABC’s of Repentance and cut out each step. You could attach the title (ABC’s of
Repentance to a posterboard, that will make it easier to attach each of the steps when you talk
about each one.)
-Make your spots
-Ask some people to help explain each step of repentance
-Make your repentance path (if you decide to use one)
-There are also little handouts included.

To begin your Sharing Time:

For my idea for the 1st week of May, I had them introduce the 4th Article of Faith. I have included a 4th
Article of Faith sign that you can use. Tell the children that today you will be talking about the second
principle: Repentance. Have them repeat the article of faith with you (you can have them repeat the
whole thing or just until “Second, Repentance;”
After you have gone over the Article of Faith begin telling the children a story…i.e-
One day I (or helper’s name) had to go to the store for my mother. While I was there I saw
some candy for sale on the counter. It looked so good, and I wanted some, but I did not have enough
money to buy what my mother needed and the candy. While the storekeeper went to find what I was
buying for my mother, I put some candy into my pocket. When the storekeeper returned, I paid for my
mother’s groceries. After I left the store, I reached into my pocket and ate the candy on my way
home. It was sooo good, but later that night Ibegan thinking about something I had learned.
Ask the children what you did wrong. Yes, I took the candy without paying for it. How did it
make me feel? Unhappy.
If you are using the ‘spots’ go ahead and put at least 4 spots on yourself or your helper.
Explain to the children, that when we sin/make wrong choices, it’s as if we are no longer clean. These
spots represent wrong choices that we make…maybe we lied to our parents, or yelled at our
brother/sister, cheated at school, etc. After we do these things though we don’t feel very happy do
we? So, what can we do? Repent/ say your sorry.
Today I am going to take you on a trip down the pathway of Repentance and learn the ABC’s
of repentance (Show them your poster). This will teach us what we need to do when we make a bad
choice. Because we don’t want these spots on us do we? But there are certain things that we must do
in order to be clean again. So let’s go.
You’ll have everyone line up (Or if you have too big of a Primary, just have different people
come into the Primary and talk to them about each step) and then go to the first station/room.
#1: Admit- When you get to the room/station hand one of the children the first wordstrip and
have them post it onto your poster. The first step of Repentance is ‘Admit’. You need to
recognize/admit that you did something wrong. Talk a little bit about this step. Use your story from
before as an example. If you use a helper to act out the story, you could even ask them questions
about this step.
#2: Be Sorry- Post the appropriate wordstrip onto the poster. The second step of Repentance
is ‘Be Sorry’. Explain that when we realize that we have done something wrong, we should admit that
we’ve done wrong and feel sorry that we did it. This feeling is Heavenly Father’s way of helping us to
know we have done something wrong. You need to feel sorry for what you did.
#3: Confess & Change- Post the appropriate wordstrip onto the poster. The third step of
Repentance is ‘Confess’. Explain that when you do something wrong, like stealing the candy bar, you
need to confess. But not only that, you also need to change.
You could have the storekeeper in this room and have you/your helper confess and ask for
forgiveness. Ask the children “How do we ask Heavenly Father for forgiveness? Prayer”.
#4: Don’t do it again!- Have a child post the last wordstrip onto the poster. The frouth step of
Repentance is ‘Don’t do it again!’ Remind the class that another thing we must do is to decide not to
make that wrong choice again. Conclude that you/your helper has to decide never to make that wrong
choice again.

Have everyone return to the primary room and return to their seats. Tell the children, I will know that I
have truly repented if I: Admit, Be Sorry, Confess, and Don’t do it again. As you say each step of
repentance, point to the appropriate wordstrip. As you say each step remove each of the spots from
you or your helper. Show the children that when you repent we are made clean.
Bear your testimony to the children.

~A few months ago the 1st counselor in our Primary talked about Repentance. She told the children
that repentance is like an eraser, that if we repent our sins will be erased. You could hand some
pencils out with a little note(idea below) attached to help them remember the steps of repentance.
This is where you could use that cute handout idea from Paper Cakes and Icing!
The Quote I used for this handout came from http://papercakesandicing.blogspot.com

We Believe that the first
principles and ordinances
of the Gospel are:

First, Faith in the Lord

Jesus Christ;

Second, Repentance;
Third, Baptism by
immersion for the
remission of sins;

Fourth, Laying on of
hands for the gift
of the holy Ghost.
