What is Cloud
Computing?
Cloud computing is
the on demand, self
service, virtual
infrastructure for
computing.

In a nut
shell

There is so much more

hree Levels of Cloud Computing

IAAS Infrastructure as a Service
PAAS Platform as a Service
SAAS Software as a Service

AS- System Administrato

Allows the customer to run the applications they
require on hardware provided by the cloud supplier.

4 Types of IAAS
The Private Cloud
The most secure and expensive method.
Physical Servers are set aside just for a particular
client.
Dedicated Hosting
Customers use just the server space that they need.
Hybrid Hosting
A mixture of physical servers and virtual servers
which are rented on demand.
Less expensive option.
Cloud Hosting
Customer rents virtual server instances on demand
by the hour.

IAAS Services:
Amazon Web Services (AWS
Rackspace
Go Grid

PAAS Application
Developers

Platforms that provide tools to create

new applications.
Developers can develop applications at
low costs.
Apps created can be private or public.
Limits the developer to use the
languages and tools the platform
provides.
Applications developed in one platform
cannot be transferred to another.

PAAS Platforms
Google -App Engine
Microsoft Azure
IBM - Bluemix

SAAS End Customers

Easiest to use
Run online exsisting applications.
All apps are free or avaiable for a
subscription.
All apps are accessible from any
computer, anywhere with internet access.
Users can work collaboratively from
anywhere with internet access.

Why Should Cloud Computing

be used in Educational
Settings?
To integrate higher
levels of rigor and
relevance in classroom instruction.
Enrich Project Based Learning
activities.
Promote use of higher level thinking
skills.
Provide learners with useful skills to use
in real world applications!
Increase student engagement
