Annotated Bibliography
Two Journal Articles:
1.
Dougherty, Keith L. An Emperical Test Of Federalist And Anti-Federalist Theories Of State
Contributions, 1775-1783. Social Science History 33.1 (2009): 47-74. Academic Search
Premier. Web. 9 Mar. 2016.
This article empirically tests both the Federalists and Anti-Federalists explanations for their
states contributions to the confederation government. He uses data from troop requisitions from
1775-1783 to decide if the states thought about protecting the Union or protected their own states
interest (Federalists argued this). This will help to corroborate my thesis that the Federalists were
right in pushing for the Constitution.
2.
Amar, Akhil Reed. Anti-Federalists, The Federalist Papers, And The Big Argument For Union.
Harvard Journal Of Law & Public Policy 16.1 (1993: 111. Academic Search Premier. Web. 9
Mar. 2016.
This article analyzes both sides of the argument and displays the origins of the reasons that
contributed to the creation of the constitution, as the document has both Federalist and Antifederalist ideas stated in the article. I will use the information presented in this article to exhibit
the differing views of the Federalists and Anti-federalists and analyze them, myself.
Two Books:
1.
Epstein, David F. The Political Theory of the Federalist. Chicago: University of Chicago Press,
1984. Print.
This will be one of the major backbones of my research paper, as it gives in-depth insight on the
Federalists political theories. As I am comparing the two sides, I will have a greater pool of
knowledge to take from.
2.
Allen, W. B., Gordon Lloyd, and Margie Lloyd. 2002. The Essential antifederalist. Lanham, MD:
Rowman & Littlefield.

This will be my counterweight to my federalist portion of my research paper. I will be able to

compare and contrast the beliefs by using this resource that specifically goes into the AntiFederalist doctrine.
