INSTALLATION OF K10 SOFTWARE

PREPARING YOUR COMPUTER

NextGen requires a VISA run-time library and the neccessary drivers for communication with
instruments. NextGen works with National Instruments USB devices (USB-A, USB-B, USB-HS) or
Agilent 82357 USB devices.
Use the following guide to choose the right driver version:
- For NI USB devices, first install NI VISA run-time 4.4 or newer plus a driver for your device.
* NI USB-A with Windows XP: use version 2.1
* NI USB-B or USB-HS with Windows XP or Vista: use version 2.7
NOTE: NI 2.7 has an optional VISA runtime included. Both can be install together instead of
installing VISA first from a seperate package.
NOTE: USB-A is not supported by National Instruments under Windows Vista and there is no driver.
- For Agilent 82357 devices with Windows XP or Vista: install the newest Agilent IO Suite. This
package contains both the drivers and the VISA run-time library.
Please use NI Automation Explorer or Agilent IO Suite to verify your computer can communicate with
an instrument. If the computer cannot communicate with an instrument, NextGen will not be able to
function properly.
NOTE: If you need to upgrade NI-VISA, we recommend that you uninstall older versions of VISA
first. It is also recommended to reboot after uninstall as well as installing new versions of any NI
software (this means several reboots may be necessary)

INSTALLING NEXTGEN
Microsoft .Net framework is also required by NextGen. When you click on the Setup.exe it will
automatically start installing the framework first if it is not present on the computer already. It is
recommended to reboot after installing the .Net framework before proceeding to install NextGen.
It is recommended to install for all users. You may change the installation location, but you should
keep the AFMETCAL/33k10-4-2-10/ suffix in the install path. If you install this application on a
network, give each computer using it special permission to access .Net framework over the network
using CASPOL.exe
