Choose a state or common core content standard to be covered with this lesson. You can
find the common core standards (which relate to language arts and math) at
http://www.corestandards.org/read-the-standards/ and the state standards at
http://doe.sd.gov/contentstandards/.
When you have chosen a content standard, develop a lesson plan that uses only existing
online learning resources (more than one) to help your students meet the content
standard. The idea is that students will fully learn a concept by viewing, listening, and/or
reading the online resources, not by listening to you. Your lesson plan may include
directions and instructions from the teacher, but it may not include any live content
presentation or lecture from you. Be sure to include a high amount of detail in your
directions so that young students would be able to understand and execute the
directions. Also use language appropriate for your audiences understanding.
This lesson plan should include the following elements:
A lesson title and summary
A brief description of your learners including grade and subject area
A list of links to the online learning resources from which students will learn,
including links to these resources
A list of the Common Core/State standard(s) you chose
A list of materials and technologies used by the teacher and students
A timeline of activities (instructional procedures) that would be completed in
the lesson. This should be very detailed and show the steps in the lesson from
start to finish. Also indicate in which order and how each online learning
resource will be featured and tell any directions/instructions or help that the
teacher should give to students during the lesson. Tell what the students and
teacher would do during each step of the process and make this section is
detailed enough for a substitute teacher to easily read and understand what to
do.
An assessment plan that includes a rubric listing all elements you will be
grading and how these will add up to a final grade
You may use the form on the next page to guide you as you do this assignment, but you
are not required to do so. Here is the grading rubric for this project:

Summary: The students will watch a short music video together as a class.
After words, they will take a virtual tour of the animal cell. They will be in
charge of labeling the organelles and giving a brief description of what each
one does on a worksheet.
Learners: The learners for this lesson are a group of sixth graders with
diverse learning needs.
Standards:
None
A computer and a
projector/smartboard.
We will begin science class by watching the Cell Rap video every day for a
week or so. It is a catchy rap that the kids probably wont like at first, but raps
always grow on kids. After that, they will split up and each grab their laptops
and headphones. Then they will each individually watch the Animal Cell
video to learn more about the cells, the basic functions of their organelles and
a few of the basic functions that they perform (osmosis, diffusion, mitosis,
etc). After that, they will visit the Labeling an Animal Cell website to label the
parts of a cell. While they are doing that, they will also be filling out a
worksheet of a cell with missing labels to ensure that they are following along
with the activity. They will also be in charge of writing a brief description of
the organelles at the bottom of the page.
Assessment Plan:
There will be mostly formative assessment of the students. The only real
assessment will be the worksheet that they do to stay on task. This will be a
check out sheet for them to go to recess or a different class.
