Imagine a beautiful sunsoaked day on the beach in the Caribbean. The clear, blue
water shimmers and dancing as the sun's soft rays loving touch it. From the corner of your eye
you spot a gorgeous couple. She, long legged and statuesque strolls hand in hand with her
equally beautiful companion with his broad chest and wash board abs. You smile and stare, not
rudely or disrespectfully, but out of delight, pleasure and Hope. You look down at your own

TORCH!

Overweight and obesity are bothlabelsforrangesofweightthataregreaterthanwhatis
generally considered healthy for a given height (CDC, 2012). The Body Mass IndexorBMIis
used to determine the ranges. BMI is calculated using One's weight and height and is used to
estimate potential dangers for health risks. The Centers forDiseasecontrol estimatemorethana
third of the US population is obese (2012). This national epidemic canbelinkedtopreventable,
premature death through diseases like heart attack, stroke, type 2 diabetes, and certaintypesof
cancer (CDC, 2012). Because of these and other issues, the medical costs skyrocket forpeople
afflicted with this ailment.
TORCH's goal is to aid in helping One's body in its energy
production and lean muscle tissue building, ultimatelypositivelyinvigoratingOne'smetabolism,
which is the processofbreakingdownproteins,carbohydrates,andfatstoyieldtheenergyOne's
body needs to maintain itself (CDC, 2012). Along with proper exercise and a healthy eating

plan, long lean muscles can work like an inferno in the body.

combination of vitamins, minerals, herbs and accessory nutrients that support many healthful
functions in one's body, whether obese or not, but when combined together form a powerful
weapon in the fight for Excellent Health. Vitamin B2 or Riboflavin, Phosphorus (mineral),
Ginseng(herb),andaccessorynutrientsProbioticsandFiber.
Riboflavin (B2) is a watersoluble vitamin. It is part of the cell enzymes called
flavoproteins (Schlenker, 2011). The enzymes, flavin mononucleotide and flavin adenine, are
vital to energy metabolism and tissue building, which are the main reasons why B2 is one of
TORCH
's major ingredients (Schlenker, 2011). Physical stamina and endurance are critical
forces needed for implementing an effective exerciseregimenwhichis1/3ofthecombination
for sustained, successful and permanent weightloss. Mindset, determining within One's self to
change no matter what, is 50% of the equation, while healthy, balanced eating is 40% and
exercise rounds out the whole pie with the last, but critical,10%ofeffort(Peterson,2013).B2's
recommended daily intake is based on the optimal amount needed to sustain appropriate
flavoproteins levels it is 1.1 mg/day for both adolescent and adult females and1.3mg/dayfor
both adolescent and adult males. (Schlenker, 2011). Not unlike most supplements, pregnant,
lactating womenandyoungchildren,couldbeatriskforRiboflavintoxicityandcontraindication
issues however, the amount used to create
TORCH would be below the standard where safety
wouldbeofagreatconcern.

The mineral Phosphorus is

TORCH's second ingredient. I chose it because of its great
contribution to overall energy metabolism as well. Phosphorus is found in every living cell,
where it participates in overall metabolism (Schlenker, 2011). Our Williams text goes on to
describe exactly how this metabolic process is energized for use. Energy metabolism:
Phosphoruscontaining compounds such as adenosine triphosphate (ATP) are highenergy
storage molecules that meetinstantdemandsforenergy(Schlenker,2011).
TORCH's
abilityto
be able to help One's metabolism increase is vitally importanttoitsoveralleffectandreasonfor
existence. Since Phosphorus is found in many common foodsofteneatenbyallpeoples, thereis
little fear of serious toxicity or contraindicative issues persisting however, again limiting direct
intake by the protected groups (pregnant, lactating women and young children) is responsible
and recommended. The recommended allowance is 1250 mg/ daily for persons up to age 18
(both genders) and reduces to only 700 mg/daily for all adults over 18 (Schlenker, 2011).
Another added benefit of Phosphorus is its partnership with Calcium in creating strong bones
in the body. The strength of One's bones will greatly aid in the development of lean and strong
muscles,whichcontinuingtorchingfatafterexerciseandevenduringsleep.
The third ingredient is Ginseng. The herb Ginseng has been around for over 5000 years
and been used as an aid to help increase physical endurance and stamina, lessenfatigue, aswell
as help improve concentration and the wherewithal to deal with life's stressful situations. It is
generally believedtoimprove One'sOverallandgeneralwellbeing(SkidmoreRoth,2010).AsI

change in a person's life, the greatest ability is mental. Since Ginseng has been proven to help
clarify mental agility and concentration,
TORCH would be significantly lacking without its

groups, diabetics and cardiac patients should also take caution to avoid consuming too much
Ginseng. Using only what is sufficient to produce the desired enhancement results will be the
mainreasonforusingthisherb.
To round out the components of
TORCH, I chose two accessory, yet vital nutrients for
purposes ofweightloss:ProbioticsandFiber.Thisdynamicduowaschosenfortheirabilityto
produce the necessary movement critical in healthy bodies. When we consume our food in
appropriate and healthy portions, ideally our bodies should usethefoodtohelpusandeliminate
any additional and unnecessary parts to avoid unwanted weight gain. A myriad of reasons exist
for adults, especially Americans, not being regular and thisdeficiency causingmultiplehealth
issues. The foods we harvest and eat today, along with all the medications, are culprits among
the reasons why our bodies are unable to function as designed. The friendly bacteria,
(WebMD.com, 2013) are vital in helping to produce the desired results for efficient energy
production fromfood.Becausetherearesomanyprobioticorganisms,itisdifficulttoestablisha
setrecommendationofdosageforaparticularpeoplegroup(WebMD.com,2013).
Fiber or Dietary Fiber, commonly known as roughage, includes parts of plant foods that
human bodies are unable to digest or absorb (Mayoclinic.com, 2013). It comes in both soluble

andinsoluableforms.Thesolubleformsaidinlowercholesterolandglucoselevelsandcanbe

PuttingitAllTogetherTheBirthofTORCH
Taking all of our components together, with each one'sbenefitsforachievingthegoalof
creating a helpful supplement to positively impact and reduce obesity is what is going to create
TORCH
. I envision offering options in three varieties: a capsule, as a tea, and as a topical
cream. Although I personally would not choose a capsule, because I do not enjoy swallowing
things, especially for an extended period of time, since so many supplements come in this
variety, it would be expected. My preferred would be the tea and the cream. I feel both would
provide a much stronger infusion of
TORCH's power and not much product wouldberequired
to achieve desired effects. I am not one hundred percent sure of exactly how the manufacturing
would take place, but I would want the cream created using essential oils to help keep its
consistency firm, yet pliableenoughwhenreadytobeusedbythecustomer.Itshouldbeapplied
to target area before exercising to increase maximum output efforts. Iwouldapplytothethighs,
fore arms, shoulders, abs and posterior, since these are large areas and actively engaged during
most exercising, be they low, moderate or high impact in nature. If one plans to exercise in the
morning, I would suggest sipping the tea about 30minutesbeforetheworkoutand,or,drinking

it just before or along with at least one meal per day. Lunch would be the preferred meal, as it
should be larger and will require the body to do more work to properly utilize the food. The
capsule could be taken at the beginning of the day, either 1 or 2, depending on lifestyle
movementandpaceofresultsdesired.
TORCH
wants to be an addition to a committed person's arsenal for permanent and
sustained weightloss. Along with a sensible & healthy diet, anascalmaspossibleenvironment
and minimal exercise or movement daily, One can overcome obesity and all its unkind
accomplices.
TORCH would love to contribute to increased quality of life for individuals who
feel they are being held back from their full and truepotentialbecauseofthelimitationsoftheir
bodies. In addition, to changing their bodies, a mindset shift needs to happen too and when
successisevident,itshouldbecelebratedsoastocontinueandflourish.
