    BeforetheCivilRightsMovement,theConstitutionwasignoredintheSouth.For
    example,theConstitutionstates,TherightofcitizensoftheUnitedStatestovoteshallnotbe
    deniedorabridgedbytheUnitedStatesorbyanyStateonaccountofrace,color,orprevious
    conditionofservitude.Instead,segregationtookplaceandtherighttovotewastakenaway
    fromtheAfricanAmericans.Anactofcouragerequiresrisk,involvessacrifice,shouldgenerally
    helpsomeone,andshouldalwaysbevoluntary.TheCivilRightsMovementisnowa
    rememberedmovement,andisalsoacausethatinspiresactiviststoday.
    TheCivilRightsMovementrequiredmanycourageousacts.Anexampleofacourage
    wouldbeJimmyLee,anAfricanAmericanactivistintheCivilRightsMovementthatwaskilled
    fortryingtovote.Heriskedhislifeinhopestohelpallracesandgenderstohavetherightto
    vote.Recentlyin2013,IrfanAli,anactivisthadhislifetakenawayinabombingattacktosave
    others.Healsoriskedhislifetohelphiscommunity.
    ThereweremanygroupsofactiviststhatstoodoutwhentheCivilRightsMovementtook
    place,buttherewasaspecificgroupthatstoodouttheyweretheFreedomRiders.Someofthe
    activistswerewhite,andtheyfoughtfortheAfricanAmericansrights.OtherswereAfrican
    AmericanandtheyfoughtforotherAfricanAmericansrights.Alltogether,theFreedomriders
    weresuchbravevolunteersthateventhoughtheyalmostgotkilledsomanytimes,theydidnt

    giveup.MalalaYousafzai,amoderndayactivistisalsoaverybraveactivistthatvolunteeredto
    fightforgenderequalityeducation,andwhileonabusride,shewasshotandsurvived.Even
    afterthattraumatizingexperience,shedoesntbackdownandcontinuestofightforgender
    equalityeducation.
    Thereweremanyactiviststhatfoughtforcivilrights,buttherewerealsomanyagainst
    civilrights,includingtheKuKluxKlan.AlthoughherfatherwaspartoftheKuKluxKlan,12
    yearoldJanieForsythMcKinneyhadhelpedtheFreedomRidersthathadjustescapedabusthat
    hadjustbeenbombed.
    Anexampleofamodernactivistthatwashelpfulwouldbe
    Raja
    Shehadeh,forgettingthewordaboutthewarbetweentheIsraeliteJewsandPalestiniansArabs.
    Sincebotharesharingoneland,andbotharefightingforit,Rajawrotetothewesternstoreport
    thethingshappeningandhiswantingforpeacebetweenthetwo.
    AlthoughtheCivilRightsMovementwasamovementthatprotestedforAfrican
    Americanstohaveequalrights,awhiteprotester,JamesReeb,whosacrificedhislifewaskilled
    byfoursegregationistswhoswungaclubathisheadforjoiningamarchledbyDr.King.A
    modernactivistwhomighthavefollowedReebsfootstepswouldbeShabanaAzmi,because
    eventhoughshehadacareerandprobablywenttoschool,sheprotestedforallchildrentogoto
    school.Bothofthemhaveonethingincommon,theybothperformedselflessactsthatwouldnt
    havebenefitedtheminanyway.
    Inconclusion,theCivilRightsMovementandmoderndayactivistswereandarevery
    importanttotheUSAstimelineofevents.WithouttheCivilRightsMovement,segregation
    wouldstillbetakingplace,andmoderndayactivistsmaynothavethecouragetheydoifnotfor
    theactivistsintheCivilRightsMovement,andtheCivilRightsMovementitself.Thisshows

    activistsdotoday,andinthefuture.
