Alright,finallygotaroundtostartingabuild.
I'vegotalotmoredonethatIhavephoto'sof,butIgotso'inthegroove'whileworkingthatIforgotthekeeptakingshotswitheachstep.
Here'swhatIhavesofar:
PutmyARtriggergroupintomytriggerhousing.Imadealittleboxtotestmymeasurementsbeforedoingthisjusttomakesure
everythingwouldlineup.I'llpostpicsofthatsoon.
Iknowthehammerholeistooclosetothedustcoverholes,thosewereweldedclosedandadimplegroundtheresothedustcoverwould
stillfit.Ididn'ttakethesizeoftheholesintoaccountwhenIdecidedwheretomountthem.

Afterthecut:
Now,timetomakeanewtriggerbarsinceIdon'twanttocutuptheoldoneanditshouldbeeasyenoughtomake.I'mdoingalotofthings
thatmakemoreworkformeonthis,butIamlearningALOTfromtheexperience,whichisworthmuchmoretomeinthelongrun.
Thisoldrustywrenchinthescrapbinisabouttherightthicknessandshouldbeplentystrong.IcleanedituponthebeltsandersoIcould

ThenIcutitoutwiththereciprocatingsaw,andcleanedituponthegrinderandthebeltsander.
That'sallIhavepicsofrightnow,butI'vealreadydonemostoftheworkonthetube,includingtheblockingbar(firstthingIdid),themag
wellcuts,thefronttrunioncuts,whichincludsablockingnubtokeepstandardshortbarrelsfrombeinginstalled,andthecockingslot,
whichImovedalittlehighersoaregularstenboltwouldn'tlineupwithit.Ialsohavemostofmyboltmachinedoutofa1.5"barof4140,
justneedtofigureoutthefiringpin.
Mymajorobstacleatthemomentisfiguringoutthebestwaytoressurectallthemachiningdoneafterthedrillbitforthefiringpinhole

Here'stheTriggerhousingwithmodifiedARtrigger,triggerbar,demillhacksawcutsweldedup,anddustcoverdetentholesweldedup
withadimplegroundinplacetolocateit.Thankstotrickyrickfortheguidanceonalotofthis.ImovedmyFCGasfarforwardasIcould.
Thehammerdoesreachhigherintothetube,butwithmybolt,itwon'tbeaproblem.Ijusthadtomakesurethatthehammerscocked
heightandendoftravelwouldbedoablewithouthavingtomaketodeepofaslotinthebolt.
Tabsweldedonforthetriggerspring.Hardtosee,buttheinsideofthetriggerhousingwasthinnedjustatadwiththemillsoIwouldn't
havetoskinnyuptheARFCGparts.Cuttingthenotchwherethetriggerusedtobewasbadenough,thesepartswereTough!

Hereyoucanseethedentingfromtestingthehammer/disconnectorrelease(beforeIrealizeditwasbeatingupthenose).Ihadtowelda
dotonthebottomofthehammernotchtogetridofthegap.IfIreleasedthetriggerfastenoughfromthedisconnector,thenotchwould
catchonthefront,butaslowsteadyreleaseanditwasjustenoughtomissandfallforwardagain.
ThislittleboxhelpedGreatlywithfiguringouthowfarIcouldpushthelimitsoftheFCGforwardandvertically.

Afterfiguringoutalocationandthinkingoverthingsabit,Idecidedthatthecleanedupendofthepunchwouldalsomakeadecentfront
sight,soIdrilledtheholeallthewaythroughandwillcutandweldthepunchonceIhaveapproximatedthenecessaryheightofthefront
sightoffthetube.Whendrillingtheholeinthetrunion,Iinstalledmybarrelanddrilledtheringonthattoo,whichIthencleanedupwithan
endmill.Onebennefitofbeingabletolocatethebarrelinthesamepositioneverytime,asidefromconsistencywithtrajectory,isbeing
abletorepositionafeedrampincaseoneneedstobemadeinthebaseofthebarrel.

Now,aboutmybolt.AsImentionedearlier,whenIwasdrillingmyfiringpinholeinthefront,thebitbrokeoff.Idecidedtotrytoannealthe
bitwhilestillinthebolt(hencethecoloring),sothatitcouldbegroundwithsmalldiamondbitsinthedremmel,ordrilledoutmaybe.Well,
IgotthefrontoftheboltasredhotasIcould,anddroppeditintoacoffeecanfullofvermiculite(coutresyofwork)toslowthecooling
process.
Well,thediamondbitswereabletoflattentheendofthedrillbitafterithadfullycooled,butcouldn'tseemtogetanyfurther.So,I
decided,aftersomeadvicefrom'theoldman'(notMyoldman),todrillfromthebackofthebolt,justuptothetipofthebit,andthen
punchitoutthefront.

Istillhavemoretotrimofftheboltbodytogetbackdowntostockboltweight.BeforeImadeandcutstothefrontforthefeedlips,

dothis.
IcutafewcoilsoffmyFPspring,justincaseitwastoostrong,andit'snowVERYlightcomparedtoalmosteveryotherFPspringI've
encountered.TheFPholeisdrilledcenterandtrue.ForthefewtimesthatitmiraculouslyDIDsettheroundsoff,itfunctionedperfectly,
extracted,ejected,cocked,andloaded.Itookaspentcasing,poppedouttheprimer,andmeltedbirthdaycandlewaxintothepocketto
seeexactlyhowfarforwardmyFPwascapableofgoing.Itwentatleast2mmintothewax.Ididafewmoretestsusingthepunchon
theFPwiththeboltstandingupmethod,andwentfromwhackingtheFP,tobarelytappingit.Inallcases,theFPdidnotpenetratethe
primer,andinallbutthelighteststrikes,itleftahealthylookingdimpleintheprimer.Intheoneortwothatdidgoofffromthehammer,the
dimplewasstillveryweak.Thehammerspringisnotbeingsquishedinsidethetriggerhousing,andthere'snobindinghappeninginthat

Beengoingincircelssincethelastupdate.WhenIinitiallytriedtheXPhammerspring,itworked,butduringlatertests,thestrikewasstill
toolight.Longstoryshort,thewholetime,myproblemhasapparentlybeentwofold.TheFPwastooshortstickingouttheback,andmy
hammerspringwasgettingcaughtonthesidesofthecutoutinthereceivertube.IdecidedtotryandtrimtheFPinnoncriticalareasso
thatitwouldbelighter,butendedupdestroyingit.So,IwentwithTommersmethod.Icouldn'tfindany7/64drillbitsthatwereverylong
(apparentlythatwasthesizeofmyFPhole),butIwasabletofind1/8"bits10"longwithonlyabout2"ofthefrontendcutfordrilling.Icut
offthefrontend,leavingabout3/4"oftheshanksothatitcouldstillbeausefullbit.UsedthatbittodrillouttheFPholeinthefrontofmy
bolt,andthenusedthesamebittodrilltheendofthedrillrodsectiontobetherestoftheFP.BlahBlahBlah,here'sabunchofpics.
Iusedanecliptoactasashelffortheretainingpintostopagainst.But,nowIneedtofindalongerspring.
BecauseIuseda1/8"FP,theholeintheboltfacewastoobig,whichallowedtheprimertobubbleintoitwhenitfired.So,Iuseda1/4"
endmilltomakeacavity,andspuna3/16"thick'washer'plugtofitthecavity,presseditin,andcleaneditup.Ithasa3/32"holeinit,and
thefiringpintipwasmatchedtofitsmoothlythroughit.

Wentbacktotheshoptodaytofinishtheboltfaceoff.IdrilledtheFPhole,andthenwenttocleanupthebackoftheholewithalong1/8"
drill.Itwashardtotellwhenitstartedtocut,becauseitwentstraightthroughtheinsertIsolderedin .So,Idrilledthefrontoutabout
1/4",andtappeditfora1/4x28NFbolt.Foundasmallgrade6bolt,cleaneditup,torqueditintotheboltface,andloppedtheshaftoff.
ThenIbroughtitdownflushwiththerestofthefacewitha2fluteendmill.RedrilledtheFPtipholeintheface,andredrilledthesamehole
thescrewedmeearlier,thistimebeingcarefullnottogotoofar.OnceIwasdone,Isaidtomyself"thatwasmucheasierthanallthat
solderingBS,hellthatwouldhavesavedmyoriginalbolt...WHYTHEHELLDIDN'TITHINKOFTHISBEFORE!?".

Inanycase,therestofthedaywasspentsandblastingallthepartsinpreparationforparkerizing,whichIhopetodotomorrow.
Here'stheblastedparts:
Theboltwasdonewithglassbeadsonthefront,andtheextensionwasdonewith20/40grit.Therestoftheparts,andthetwomagbodies
ontheright,inside,wereblastedwith40/80grit.Iranoutafterthosetwomags,andhadtoswitchovertothe20/40fortherestofthe
magazines,thebarrel,andthefloorplates.TheyweremuchcoarserthanIliked,soIcleanedthemalluponthebrasswirewheel.Ialso
cleanedupthethreadsonthebarrelnut/handguard,andtheringsandfaceofthebolt.Itwillbeinterrestingtoseehowtheyturnout
tomorrow.

Thefirstproblem,whatthatmyfrontsightwasWAYtoshort,causingtheroundstohitabout8"highas25yards.Idecidedthatinsteadof
makinganewfrontsight,Iwouldmovethestandardrearsightpeep.Iwillneedtoweldtheoldpeepholeclosed,anddrillanewonethatis
lower.Togetanideaofhowlow,Iadjustedmysightalignmentuntiltheroundswerehittingwheretheyshould.Thefrontsight,when
viewedthroughtherearpeep,needstobeheldbetweenthe4:30and7:30clockpositions.Iusedaneedlefiletomarktheapproximate
positionforthenewholecenter.Thiswillmakeiteasiertofindoncetheoldholeisweldedup.
Secondproblem:theeclipwillnotworkasafiringpinspringretainer.Thisisnolongeraproblembecauseofthethirdproblem:Thefiring
pinshaftImadefromdrillrodsnappedinthecenter...apparentlyitwasn'tstressrelievedenough.
Fourthproblem:Theheightofthehammer,whenheldbythehammernotch,neededmore'meat'addedtoit,asafterthefirstshot,Iwas
gettinglightprimerstrikesabouthalfthetime.Ideterminedthatthehammer,oncereleasedfromthedisconnector,hadtraveledtoofar
forwardbythetimethehammernotchwasreengaged,sothatit'sstrikeanglebeganatabout45*.Iwillhavetotakephoto'sofallthis,
whichi'lldowhenIgetbacktotheshop.TheonlyphotoIdohaveisjustaftergettingsetup.
