Music Education

Survey Participants:
This survey was open to the public because
I wanted to see how people use music in all
age groups and places. The responses came
mostly from fellow peers attending Clear
Springs High School because I sent this out
through text and Facebook. I also sent this
out to many family members. Participants
ranged from all age groups, but were mostly
between 10-25. I conducted this survey on
a website called survey monkey and a
total of 29 people participated.

Purpose of this Survey:

The purpose of this survey is to produce
data collected from primary sources.
Surveying the public first hand gives
accurate information. It gives insight into
how people view and treat music. This
survey also demonstrates a trend for how
music is used, helping music producers
better adhere to the public.

Hypotheses for the Survey:

1. Most people that listen to music when
they exercise will also say that they are
motivated to work harder when
listening to music.
2. Respondents that let their friends
influence their music choice will also
think they can judge others by their
music choice.
3. Most people will say that songs can
have different effects on their mood,
and most people will also prefer a slow
song when they are sad.
4. Females are more likely to listen to
music more often than males.

Of all the people who participated, 15 were

answered that their friends didnt affect their
music choices at all. 19 respondents said that
their mood changes based on the type of song
it is, and 9 respondents said that the song
somewhat affects their mood. An
overwhelming number of 24 people said that
they would rather listen to a slow song when
they are sad. The responses to the last
question about whether a person can be
judged by their music was mixed. 34% said
yes, 24% said for the most part, 31% said a
little bit, and 10% said no.

Summary & Conclusion:

The results from this survey demonstrate
that music has a large effect on the lives of
everyone. Only 2 respondents said that they
never listen to music, which means most
people have at least some involvement with
music. This survey also shows how music can
have a positive effect on people, because 75%
of participants said that music motivates
them to work harder. 74% of respondents
also said they usually listen to music while
they exercise, which shows how music can
encourage an individual to keep moving. The
results were also heavier on the side of
listening to music all the time, which means
most people listen to music quite a bit.
Because half of the survey participants were
between 14 and 18, the two most popular
types of music were pop and rap. This survey
demonstrates the differences in music
preferences and effects between age groups
and genders. These results help me see how
people perceive and use music.
