Observation #4
Date: 2/16/2016
Lesson: Formative Assessment on contractions Scoot
Grade: 3rd
Time: 30 minutes
Standards:

CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.L.3.1

Demonstrate command of the conventions of standard English grammar and

usage when writing or speaking.
Objective:
Students will be able to accurately convert words into their contraction
form.
Materials Needed:
25 Notecards, each with one contraction on it
25 privacy folders
Scoot sheet
Timer
Beginning:
I will review contractions with the students. We will go over what a
contraction is, how we form them, and what they mean.
I will review how the game scoot works: the students will have 35
seconds at each station, the will not move stations until I say scoot,
and students do not start until the timer starts. I will remind students
to take their time making sure they copy words down correctly, taking
into account the rules for contractions we had just gone over.
Middle:
The students will move from station to station converting the words at
each station into their contraction form.
End:
I will ask students to make three piles on their desk: 1 pile for the scoot
papers, 1 pile for the notecards, and 1 pile for the folders.
I will collect the scoot papers and the notecards and one student from
each table will bring the folders and put them back where they belong.
We will go over some of the contractions that were in the scoot
game.
I will grade their scoot papers and return them to the students after.
These scoots are not going into the grade book, they are just to help
the students practice writing contractions.
