SOWK 483: PROCESS RECORDING #1

Kimberly Charlton
Saturday, October 2nd, 2015
Session/Contact #: Contact #8 with client family
Goal and/or Purpose of Contact: The goal of this meeting was to conduct a biopsychosocial assessment on the
client with the help of the clients mother. This biopsychosocial assessments purpose is to gain a thorough
understanding of the client within different aspect of their lives, such as their medical history, diagnosis, family
history, and current interventions (to name a few). The assessment will allow the social worker to propose
treatment options or plans for the client as they move forward.
The clients mother was interviewed for this particular assessment because the client is only two years
old and the assessment required that the person being interviewed provide in-depth information on the clients
history as well as family history. Since this contact was not a therapy session, the majority of the time was spent
with the mother and not with the client. However, as an agency who serves children on the autism spectrum as
well as their families, the clients family is also considered clients of the agency.
The client contact occurred in the clients home and was scheduled according to the familys preferences
(early morning on a Saturday). The student also had another student lead the assessment with her. The other
student is also placed as an intern with Palmetto Autism Interventions and while the client is not one of her
regular clients, she is familiar with working with children on the autism spectrum and their families. The two
students co-interviewed the clients mother by switching off answering questions. The entire assessment last
about 1.5 hours, but only one section is recorded below.

*Client is referred to as S in the dialogue section of the process recording due to confidentiality. Clients brother
is referred to as E.
