PSII Goal- Alix Cooper

Goal no. 1

Action Plan

What will you accomplish?

(Goal statement)

I hope to learn how to change my tone of voice for each

of my classes. Teaching kindergarten to grade nine has
me slightly concerned that I will speak to the older
students as if they are younger than they are. I hope to
learn how to speak to and joke with the older students.

What does it look like when youve

accomplished your goal?
I.e., How will you know you have achieved
your goal?
What are the indicators of success or
progress? (Assessment)

I will know that I have achieved

Timeline:
this goal when I have a good,
(By when?)
solid relationship with my older
students. I am hoping that they

with my students.
I think that this is an important goal because it is so
important to learn the differences between each of the
classes. I have to be so careful to not talk to my older
students as though they were babies, because plain and
simple, they arent. I would have detested any teacher
that treated me like a baby, and I dont want any of my
students to not like me based on something I could easily
work to change.
Assets
Liabilities

Rationale:
Why is it important?

Pre-assessment:
What assets and/or liabilities currently exist?
How can you take advantage of your assets
and minimize your liabilities?
Who or what can help?

1. Watching my TAs interaction

with the students- it is truly
amazing.
2. Thinking before I speak to
them- and consciously thinking
about whether I would want to
be talked to like that.
3. Picking material that is
appropriate to their age group,
and challenges them.
4. Showing them that I respect
them and their thought and
opinions about their musical
choices.
5. Allowing them to have some
choice in their repertoire, solos,
and other day to day things that
may be important to them.

1. They do not know

me yet.
2. I dont want my
students to see them
as a friend.
3. Finding the line
between teacher and
pal.
4. Still making my
own decisions about
what I feel is best for
the group, yet
allowing them to
have some input.
5. It will be difficult
to switch gears
from the mindset of
talking to the
kindergartens who I
teach the period

before.

Action plan:
How will you accomplish your goal?
What will you do?
By when?

Actions/steps to be taken
(What will you do?):
1. I will talk to my TA about
how she developed her
relationships.
2. I will watch my TA interact
with the students.
3. I will ask my students about
their interests, and show that I
am interested in similar things
(or at least talk to them about it
even if Im not interested)
4. Make sure that I think about
what I am saying carefully, and
yet make it clear that I am still in
charge.
5. Show my students that I
respect them and their opinions.

Timeline:
(By when?)
I would like to have
my entire goal
accomplished by
spring break, so that I
can come back into
band class feeling
confident after the
break.
