/NationalStandard:

3.16 The student will identify and describe congruent and noncongruent plane figures.

MeasurableLessonObjective(s):

Students will be able to identify lines of symmetry on plane figures.

Materials/Technologies/ResourcesNeeded:
Students need math notebooks
Students need pencils
Teacher needs model of plane figure cutouts
Document camera
Assessment(Formativeand/orSummative):
1.

Formative assessment conducted based on students ability to identify lines of symmetry

AnticipatorySet(Hook&Agenda)
Teacherwill:

Gather students on the rug. Students need

math notebooks & pencil

Today we are going to start with

reviewing symmetry. We will work with the
shapes we glued into our notebooks last
class.

Studentswill:

Accommodations/
Differentiation:

Anticipated
Time:

Students will think back to what we

started last class.

1min

Access/ReviewPriorKnowledge
Teacherwill:
Talk about what we did last class with
these shapes. In a small group we got
together and talked about ways we could
fold the shapes and how many lines of
symmetry each shape had.

Studentswill:

Accommodations/
Differentiation:

Anticipated
Time:

Students will recall this activity and what they

learned from it. They will think abot how many
lines of symmetry each figure had.

Students who were

absent will be given
a new sheet to cut
& glue shapes into
notebook. ---MH

Teacherwill:
Place model under document camera for
students to see.

Go through each plane figure and talk

about how many lines of symmetry each
has. Draw lines of symmetry with marker.
Students will draw lines on their figures
also.

Studentswill:

Accommodations/
Differentiation:

Students practice identifying lines of

symmetry on plane figures.

Anticipated
Time:

15 min

Students record information in their notebooks

so they may use to as a reference later.

Triangle
Trapezoid
Diamond
Square
Circle
Hexagon

If students have a
hard time counting,
show them folding with
my shapes since their
are glued down.

Have students label their notebook page

Studentswill:

Check student work. Give students a check

mark on their page if they have lines
drawn on each figure.

Students have work checked for

correction by teacher.
