Depression is a mental illness that effect daily your daily life. But with help anyone can succeed.
Depression has came a long way in the past years. There are more and more adults and young
adults coming forward who are facing depression everyday, even in the workplace. Depressions
impact on indirect cost such as productivity losses from absenteeism. ( Mental illness: A rising

Many think of depression as something you make up in your head, most never look at is as a true
illness. Well in fact it is a true mental illness that nobody wants to suffer from. Depression leaves your
body and mind tired, it can change appetite, and it can leave one with emotional thoughts such as
sadness and anger. Anyone with depression will tell you its not imaginary and it is more than just
feeling down occasionally. Depression is a serious illness caused by changes in the brains chemistry.
Depression can also be caused from hormone changes, stress or even grief. It is one of the most
disabling diseases in the world and it doesnt discriminate against anybody.

from depression on a daily basis. This can be your friend, teacher, or even your boss. Almost 61
percent of people leave their depression untreated. (SAMHSA)
Employers can help employees who suffer from depression by having regular screenings to check
for depression. By doing so more adults may be likely to seek some kind of treatment.
The first step is employers having regular screenings checking for depression in their workers. It
is easier for the business to over look their workers facing depression. But the truth is someone who is
struggling with depression is more likely to miss more work than someone who isnt. When and
employee misses more and more work, this will cause the business to lose more money over time. In
two years studies have shown that 10,859 employees missed work due to some sort of depression.

something such as high blood pressure.
By having someone teach managers and business owners how to look for depression and what to
do if they suspect someone is facing it can raise the percentages of those who will seek help outside of
work. This will then lower the amount of absenteeism.
Bank one decided to go head on with the subject. They taught managers how to look for signs
and symptoms in their workers such as absenteeism, and lack of energy. They were also taught that
women are two times more likely to suffer from depression than men are. (Mental illness: A rising
workplace cost) It is also known that more women will seek help over men. Being able to spot

someone who may have depression in early stages can make the transition period easier for everyone.
This can also make one want to seek help for treatment faster than someone who suffers longer.

What happens when the boss faces depression in and out of the workplace?
A boss who is suffering from depression can put the business in a huge rough spot. The
repercussion on the workplace, and employees can be enormous if the illness starts to
interfere with the leaders work performances. ("Dealing With Depression In The Workplace.")
When it becomes clear that the boss needs help, things can start to become very tricky
for everyone. By confronting someone with such authority can cause someone to become
ignored or even fired. But if by chance the boss happens to listen and it encouraged to seek
help from a professional things for themselves can look up as well as the productivity of the
business. Also when employees have a boss who is eager to be there and eager to talk to each
of the workers, then this encourages others to show up to work. When they are greeted by
someone who is constantly having a rough day or even taking their problems out on everyone
else, can discourage employees from showing up to work. This resulting in more money lost
from the business.
So we have it. Those who are living with depression are more likely to miss work, but are
less likely to seek help without some kind of encouragement from and outside source. The
more businesses who receive help in getting their employers examined for things such as


mental illnesses, the more likely they are to succeed and not loose near as much money from
having workers who are constantly missing work. Employers and employers can receive help
by taking the first step and talking to a family doctor. They will then give you another
examination. They will then deiced what the next step is for you. This may be something as
simple as coming up with a medication plan that will help you with the troubles you are facing,
or in extreme serious cases this could mean sending you out for further examination from
another professional such as a psychiatrist . Medicines used to treat depression are
considered Anti-Depressants. Examples of depression medications are Zoloft and Prozac.
Another way to help treat depression is to talk to someone you trust. This can help release
some of the stress that you have kept in and that is making you feel depressed. Slowly you
will start to become your old self again. You will get in the routine of doing things the way that
you used to before depression hit you. With motivation and a large amount of encouragement
it is possible to live life the way that you want to. Without having to wake up and feel as if you
dont belong or dont want to get out of bed again. With the correct treatment plan, you can
wake up refreshed, and with a since of belonging. Waking up feeling like you have a purpose in
life, can greatly motivate you to head into work, this resulting in the company to gain money,
and you gain your life back.
